Have I mentioned that I LOVE snowmen? Well I did indeed once again prove that fact. I was flipping through the book Stash Happy Patchwork and I came across this picture of sheets and pillowcases that had decorative hexagons paper pieced to them (see below) and from that I ended up with the idea to make a snowman tea towel!
From this: To This:
Weird how the mind works! It was quick and easy to put together and a lot of fun too! He came to life in a matter of hours. I folded the snowman fabric around some English Paper Pieces then buttonhole stitched them to the snowy background, both fabrics were from the Merry Minis Collection. I just made a tube with the scarf and just tacked it on folded down to give the scarf dimension, which is made out of one of the knitted looking fabrics from the Winter Fun Collection. Then I just stitched on some eyes and a nose, I decided to forgo the mouth because he was so cute already. Mari graciously offered to “pen stitch” the arms which I hadn’t heard of before and was too scared to do. She just used a Pigma pen and they appeared before my eyes. I had her do them in the “stick ‘em up” style I’ve seen everywhere this year. I’m not sure why but for some reason 2011 must be the year of snowmen getting held up by gun point, I say this because most of the ones I’ve seen this year all have their hands up in the air like they are giving up. Most of them still have smiles though bless their hearts. Case in point:
Hope you all have a very Merry Holiday Season and a Happy New Year!
