Quilt With Us

I received the quilt on the left from my grandmother in 1958 when my first son was born. I used it with all four of my babies. Washed it many, many times in a wringer washer and hung it outside on the clothesline to dry. My grandmother hand appliqued the pieces on, hand embroidered the bonnets with fancy stitches, and quilted the whole thing by hand. She put the binding on by machine. I loved the quilt so much I made the one on the right, trying to do as she had done. The small quilt in the middle is a round robin done this year in our quilt club. This is my second attempt to post a photo. I will get better I hope!

What a wonderful story, Jodi! Thanks for sharing it and your photos. Your grandmother did lovely work that not only held up, but made lasting memories. How nice that you've paid homage to her with your quilts and what a wonderful example you're setting for your own descendants.

I love to see quilts that have seen years of love, and actually being used.  Your Grandmother's quilt is in great condition, and I love your remake!

All of these quilts are lovely Jodi.  It is wonderful that the quilt your grandmother made is still in such good condition.

Wonderful quilts!  Loved the story.  What precious memories that quilt must evoke every time you see it or touch it.  I like the colors in your reproduction quilt, and the little wallhanging is as cute as it can be!  I admire the work that goes into appliqued projects.

I love the story of your Grandmothers quilt.  Sun Bonnet Sue is one of my favorite quilt designs but have yet to make one. Now that I have a GGD I should make one.  Mum hand stitched a lot and did such a beautiful job.  She did it so fast and her stitches were so even.  Your quilt and the block are beautiful also.
