Quilt With Us

Sharon

The clock is ticking......his hand is moving.......

Hello everyone,
Hope all is well with everyone. Here in Alabama Ida has decided that her time was running out too so I guess she's decided nothing like showing up at the last minute!!!! She's definitely an unwanted visitor. I can't believe Thanksgiving and Christmas is just around the corner. There is the tree to trim( going up this weekend) and more shopping to do.(online more this year). I have to finish quilting the jelly roll strip top before Dec. 1. Class is Dec. 3 to finish it. My mind is already trying to move on to other projects. I am thinking about joining Project Linus after the first of the year. I've been wanting to do something to help sick children so I think that could be the thing. Would like to get some feedback from some of you that are involved with that program.
An update on the video-conferencing for Danny and school. We were live on Thursday and some of the Department of Education Staff for Special Education from Montgomery paid us a visit and got to see what we are doing. They were excited about it and it looks like God is moving on this because they are talking about using this not only for the children like Danny ( special needs, immune compromised, cancer patients etc.) but they want it to be used for children with behavioral problems etc. that when them being in a classroom full of others isn't in their best interest. Then they could get more one on one with the teacher. They too want to see this take off. God is so good about making things happen!!!
Well I'd also like some advice on where some of you are getting fabrics by the bolts at a reasonable price? Have any of you bought the fabric stash combo from Nancy's notions ( in the catalog)? Trying to get some ideas for my Christmas list. If any of you have any good websites let me know.
To all my QWU friends and group members I hope you all are doing well and I'm thinking of you. I know some of you have been having hard decisions to make, sickness in your families etc. I pray for all the QWU members. In your prayers, please pray for me and my DH and boys, as this year we will be spending the holidays alone for the first time. No company allowed because of Swine flu and it's not safe for Danny. I want any of you that may find yourselves also alone on the holidays to let me know and we can stay in touch and lift each other up during that time. That's what friends are for!! Looking forward to hearing from you.
God Bless!!!!
Sharon

Sharon, I hope Ida doesn't hit too hard. Hope your special program continues to get the attention of the Gov't and goes places for you. You are right God is in control. Yes, we will be alone this year for the holidays. DH is having knee replacement on Fri. and will have to have his six week check up around that time. We were home for Christmas for the first time in 2005 after being away and married since 1977. It was great. Then we have been home every year since. This year we had already decided we would not go. DH didn't want to go so my place is with him. It really didn't matter to me as I was suppose to be going in Jan. to come back with Mom as she comes and stays with us for the winter now that Dad is gone. I think she is still coming but I won't be going to get her. Time will tell so we will stay in touch.

Hi Sharon, I hope Ida isn't being too bad. I don't think she will make it here to NW Alabama.
I had been involved with Project Linus locally until our chapter closed. I recently found a chapter located about an hour away and it just happens to be where my son lives, so it's fairly convenient for me. They have workdays a few times a year at a quilt shop. Many of the ladies also work on quilts independently throughout the year and drop them off at that shop or another shop that is nearer to my son. That is what I have done so far, but I'm looking forward to attending a workday in a couple of weeks. It is a way to give back a little, as I have several friends and family that have benefited from the NICU in that area. They also donate to several other worthy children's agencies. I think it is a great organization.
If you need to find the chapter nearest you check the website, that is how I found this one.

God Bless you Sharon, and I thank Him that this program for Danny may be coming your way. The way you talk it will be a good thing. That is awesome. I pray protection for all of you in the wake of Ida in Jesus Name. Margueritte Rosscamp (Kit) is over the Nashville Chapter of project Linus and she I'm sure would be happy to answer any of your questions about project Linus. She is a precious
lady and a member of "Hearts and Faces'. You should contact her. Don't forget about whittlesfabrics.com Their prices are fantastic and they have high end fabric. They also have fat quarters and such. Sharon you and your family are in my prayers. I will talk to you soon. Love in Christ my Sister, Linda

I, too, and really pleased to hear the good news about the schooling for Danny. I have a good friend who is home schooling her RAD child. The school system is trying to eliminate those programs and he would NOT make it in school and be successful. There is a large group of children, for many reasons, who would not do well in the public system. We must look at what is best for the child and forget about money in the pocket. Okay, off the soap box now. LOL I know you will make the holidays special for your family, even though desiring to be with the larger groupl Have fun fabric shopping. I just got some for a new art quilt from FabricDepot.com. They are out of Portland OR. I know there have to be some good internet shops closer to your home.

Glad to hear the good news on the video conferencing. Will keep you in my prayers. Have no clue if I will be home or on the road for the holidays. Won't know till they are here and see where I'm at.

Sharon--I'll be praying for all of you in Ida's path. We've been far enough inland everywhere we've lived to miss the brunt of hurricanes, but I've seen enough not to want to see any more. Have you looked at Thousands of Bolts or Quilt Fabric Closeout? Also, Fat Quarter Shop has some clubs that look really interesting--imagine a Christmas present every month for a year! Y'all take care--praying for Danny and all of you.

Hang in there! We prefer to stay home for the holidays, but I'm sure it makes a difference whether you HAVE to or want to. Glad the video conferencing system is working well. That must be a relief. It sounds like it has more than one application and its exciting when others recognize the value in it.

Sharon-That is so wonderful that the school system is working with you...illness is so isolating as you well know. Your son is so lucky to have parents like you. This flu has definitely changed a lot of plans. We're here for you...
