Went to the Doc today for my yearly visit. Went over all the blood work reports, and he is recommending a test that I will be taking next January since the insurance will probably not pay for it and at least then I can claim it on the cafeteria plan and get reimbursed for it. (Is is really reimbursement since the money is withheld from the paycheck to start with?) He wants me to start taking a daily aspirin, and to increase my Vitamin D3 to 2,000 units per day (wants me to increase it for DH also). And of course try to loose some weight to help alleviate some of the arthritis pain. Other than that I am in good health and the blood work was well within "normal parameters." Anyway, I was able to get my H1N1 shot while I was there. I am in a risk group, but not in any of the ones that the Public Health Department Clinics recognize, besides I do not think I could stand in those long lines if they would list "people at risk who are over the age of . . ." Right now my arm is sore. Sort of feels like getting a pneumonia shot. At least DH will be happy to hear I have finally received my shot.
Now I have to schedule my mammogram and follow-up bone density test. At least I can get them both done at the same place/time. Osteoporosis is a very familiar trait in my family. Even my brothers have had hips replaced (and they are all younger than I am). Speaking of mammograms, have you ever wondered what the procedure would be if men had to go in and get certain parts of their bodies examined by a compression machine every year? I know DH did have to get his "breasts" examined one time, but they sent him in to have a CT scan done. Not fair! And he has never complained about bruising after getting his yearly prostate exam, so what is up with the mammogram compression machine?
Actually I am thankful that I am as healthy as I am. I might not be able to move as fast as I once did, and I never was all that graceful, but I can move. As DH often says, "I woke up this morning, and I am vertical (more or less), so today is a good day."
