Quilt With Us

I just saw NBC morning news report about excessive airline carry on bag fees and felt like I had been punched in the gut!

A man said he was 'not going to be taken' by the airlines charging him an extra $60 when his ticket was only $140. So he emptied his carry on bag and threw away books and toiletries. No big deal right?

He then threw away a pastel tied quilt.

Watching him shove it down the garbage can hole took the air out me and my son. Even my son knows to respect quilts enough to yell at the screen to put it back in the car or anything- but not in the trash can!

That may have been me mentioning how children/grandchildren of quilters just thought of all those quiltops as OLD.

I'm betting someone in his family will be mad at him, and he'll never be trusted with a handcrafted item again.

Was reading someone's blog (probably followed a link from here) written by a woman who bought some antique quilts from a gentleman who inherited these family heirlooms but "could not care less" about them. At least they're with someone who loves them now, even if they are out of the family. Tell you the truth, I worry about the future of my quilts if my daughter doesn't have kids. I know she'll love them, but then what?

I just watched the video of this on NBC Today Show website......took my breath away to see him toss that sweet pastel quilt. Looks like someone gave it to him to take to a grandchild, it was that sweet and new looking. If the maker of that quilt sees the news video I want her to know that he wasn't heartless just obviously unable to cope with the frustration of the situation.

I sure hope that at least somebody saw this and picked it out. What a terrible shame!

I use to travel allot by plane but this luggage deal has me staying home. I think I would have wrapped myself in the quilt and "wore" it on the plane. lol I hope someone gets to pick the trash and salvage that quilt. What a rip off it is to fly now. I would rather pay extra for the ticket which includes the baggage check then think I got a bargain on a ticket only to get "raped" at the baggage check.

I wonder why he was carrying it in his carryon bag. Must have been made for him by someone special. I too would be heartsick.
