Quilt With Us

My dh and I have the opportunity to be in Oswago, New York in early Sept.  We will be pulling our 5th wheel and camping while there. We know nothing about the area, have never been there before and I wondered if anyone here knows the area or is from that area.  What should we not miss? What are the great places to visit?  We will be stationary in Oswago for about 4 days but after that we will have 6 or 8 days to travel and visit places.  Thanks!

Francine, what is the campgroundyou referred to in your post in Wilmington. And in our search, we are having trouble finding availability in state parks for rigs over 30 feet. Are the sites fairly small in state parks in NY? Do you have electric where you camp?

Thank you ladies.  We have all the areas/things you mentioned on a list and we are trying to make our plans now.  We will be leaving around Labor Day.  Bob is teaching a class in Oswego Sept. 8,9,10, so we are going to the area the week before and then sightseeing our way home the rest of that week and the following week.  Making our plans now.  If we are in an area any of you are in, I would love to meet up with you. Especially the 3 days he is teaching.   I'll stay in touch!

I'm in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of New York.  There is the Watkins Glen State Park that has camping and a beautiful gorge to walk in.  There is a nice quilt shop there as well - O'Susannah's Quilts & Gifts.  Corning is home to the Corning Museum of Glass that is a beautiful place to visit.  There is also historic Market Street with lots of shops and restaurants as well as the Rockwell Museum that showcases western art.  My DH and I were just in the 1000 Islands over the 4th of July and camped at Wellesley Island State Park.  While there we went to Boldt Castle - beautiful!

I have been to Oswego several times.  I loved the boat tour of the 1000 islands.  My brother used to live there.  I have two nephews who still live there. It's a great area to visit.

Pam and Francine, thank you......your info has made me even more excited for this trip. Yes Pam, I am referring to Oswego.....sorry about the misspell.  My dh will be doing a training class (retired engineer but does these classes) somewhere in the Oswego area so we will take the opportunity to travel in the area. Will look all these areas up on the map and yes, I would so love to meet you and anyone in these areas!  I will stay in touch.

if you come up to Lake Placid - you will enjoy all the fall colors - there is a very very nice camping in Wilmington - ( 10 miles from LP) and they have large sites and all the amenities and beautiful places to visit around - let me know if you come this way - as we go every week end - would like to meet with you

Kathy, do you mean Oswego? If, it is...you're going to be close to the Thousand Islands, Syracuse, Fingers lakes (wine country) You will love your trip. You won't have enough time to see it all! There are fabulous boat tours of the Thousand Islands that you will want to take in Alexander Bay. Definitely, drive to the Finger Lakes...as good as NAPA valley. There are many festivals going on. You will be about 3 hrs from Corning glass factory and a fabulous Remington museum. You will be on the edge of the Adirondak Mts. Many fun little towns to wander around in. Old Forge is a great day trip. There is a huge old time hardware store there that you don't want to miss. Lake George would be about 2 1/2 hours...another wonderful area for a day trip and outlet shopping. The scenery is wonderful.

We are hoping to go to Florida for part of Feb and March 2015. We put our trailer on our old campsite for summer so we can have the g.son for visits.
Enjoy your trip.

Hi Ally, glad to hear from you. I still remember our visit at McD's.  We are still camping and loving it.  We'll keep going as long as we can and the good Lord lets us. Are you still camping too?  Looking forward to our NY trip.  Thanks for what you know!

Hi Cathy haven't seen you on here for a while, hope you and your DH are well.
A few years ago we were in New York State on our way East. We stopped at a place called Crystal Springs, the camp we stopped at had a mining for gems which was very interesting. They had school group that came there. But the area you are going to we only passed through on our way East. So can't help you there.
Anyway have a great time this summer. Ally.
