Quilt With Us

We are spending the last week at the lake before closing for the winter. Fall in CNY has been spectacular. It's another beautiful week. We were sitting out enjoying the fireplace last night, when all of a sudden, what saunders up...A HUGE SKUNK...OMG...when I say HUGE this was the biggest skunk...I froze and hubby started chirping and slowly moving his hands to let the skunk know that we didn't want to be sprayed!!! He turned and had his tail up and ready... but slowly exited...can you even imagine how awful that could have ended!!!! We went inside...lol

Unfortunately, my go to LQS is closing. So, am going to see if there's anything left! Hate to see another shop close. Have a great weekend!

Skunks have one of the nicest personalities in the animal kingdom! They only spray when feeling threatened.  They seem bigger this time of year because they have stored food and grew a thicker coat before hibernation!  please folks, read up on skunks if you cant take my word.  They even make sweet, adorable pets, folks do get  them a surgery to have them 'deskunked'!  When you see one after reading this and still feel scared, just be still and talk calmly to them.  It will sense you will not harm her/him and will slowly walk away!

Wow, good thing you were alert to the visitor!  For sure a close call.

Sorry to hear about your LQS; we are losing too many of them.

Forgot to ask you Pam, which QS is closing?

Pam, funny about the skunk (since you were spared a spraying!). Last night DH was talking on his phone in the backyard and he heard the leaves rustling near his feet. He looked down to find a skunk walking right by him. Fortunately DH Nd the skunk both remained calm and spray free.

DH & I went for a drive today in the Unaweep Canyon, south & west of Grand Junction, in Western Colorado. DH, who has lived here all his life, said he had never seen color so spectacular. It was a beautiful, wonderful drive. We love this time of year and don't relish winter closing us in. But the memory of this drive will keep us for a long time. We are thankful.

I'm so glad that the skunk sauntered off without leaving his "mark", so to speak.  Whew!  What a close call.

I hate to hear of quilt shops (or other wonderful stores) closing.  So many good ones have closed.

We've had a lot more skunk activity in our area the last few weeks, as well.  I'm glad we haven't had the close encounter you had.  Too close for comfort!  We just finished an unbelievably nice week of beautiful temps, now the cool down begins, but there is still plenty of fall color to enjoy.

Years ago I was a hairstylist in a mountain town with summer residents.  One client told about the skunks coming by the lake in the evening & how much fun it was to watch them, so she started putting out cat food & more would come around.  It dawned on her in late July that they would be going home soon, & maybe she should stop feeding the skunks so they didn't decide to make their summer home a skunk haven for the winter!
