Vacation Plans in Southen California and a question

Is anyone attending the Long Beach Quilt Festival this month? I'm going and would love to meet up with you while I'm shopping. This is purely for personal fun - no work! :)

I'm flying down a few days early to spend a long weekend with a girlfriend that lives in L.A. We're driving up through Santa Barbara, seeing her parents in Santa Inez (?) and going to Hearst Castle and maybe a winery. She's a knitter and a beader, we've agreed to hit ONE yarn shop, ONE bead shop and only ONE quilt shop on the trip. Any advice? I found a bead shop in Santa Barbara but don't know anything about it. Can you recommend any of these for me?

After that weekend, I'll be in Long Beach and will most certainly to go my favorite shop in the area - Piecemakers, for their fabulous crazy quilting supplies.

Karen - you'll have to go up north to Paso Robles/Atascadero. There are a few great quilt shops in both cities. Also, EOS Winery is on Hwy 46 in Paso Robles - beautiful estate. My daughter just got married at the winery there in June. In Solvang, CA (right next to Santa Ynez) there is a store called Rasmussen's and it carries fabric and alot of yarn upstairs. Solvang is a quaint replica of a Danish town. If you go there, be sure and eat "abelskeevers" (spelling??). They are round (as in meatball round) pancakes - and they are the best there. Have fun - the Central Coast is a beautiful place. I grew up there and married and left when I was 20 - now I try to get back as often as I can. I sure took it for granted growing up there. Whatever you do, enjoy yourself.

I want to go! I'm a California girl......I was not a quilter when I lived there, though. Have fun! Oh, and it is Santa Ynez. Don't ask me why they spell stuff like that! Spanish, obviously! Have fun and have a glass of wine for me....

What a fabulous holiday!! The LB show should be great--The Hearst castle is incredible--I drug the whole family through it--all 3 or was it 4 tours--and even they loved it!! Do a little shop-hopping for me, too--ok!!
