Quilt With Us

The gardens were incredible, as expected. The weather was fabulous - 66 and sunny - couldn't have asked for a better day. We took it slowly, rested a lot and saw every square inch of the place. I had been a little concerned about going so late in the season, but there was plenty to see. The only area that was skimpy was the Rose Garden, but whatareyagonnado?

We had a lovely Afternoon Tea for lunch - they said it was nice for a "light lunch" - well the stuff was light, but when you add it all up and eat every bite, lite it's not. We waddled out happy and satisfied, bought the obligatory tea in the gift shoppe, then finished up with the last of the gardens we'd missed.

Came back to the lovely room and relaxed for awhile - my mom and Carol took naps and I sat out of the fabulous patio in the sunshine and read my book - what a life! Can't believe the weather was nice enough to sit outside!!!!

My mom decided we were having fish n chips for dinner and we couldn't decide which touristy waterfront place to eat. So I decided to take my tour guide responsibilities seriously. We hopped in the van and I drove us around the scenic drive along the water...for a long time. We stopped at every view point, drooled over the gated homes, dreamed about which ones we'd buy (many were for sale). We were watching for fish n chips places but it was miles of residential instead. So after awhile we decided we were getting hungry and I said I'd turn around at the next opportunity - well, the next opportunity was a little group of shops, grocery and a PUB!!!! The Smugglers Cove Pub was our perfect dinner spot - yum! Perfectly greasy halibut fish (giant pieces - glad the waitress recommended only one piece), fries and super yummy seafood chowder. Fat and happy we headed back.

This morning we're cooking breakfast in the room - did I mention it had a full kitchen? I bought the groceries, so my mom is cooking while I type, and Carol will clean -seems fair, doesn't it?

We have to be in line for the ferry at 1:30, so we'll meander our way through downtown once more after we check out. Won't be home until after 10 tonight - I'll be yawning tomorrow at work - sorry 'bout that.

I am so glad you shared your trip with us. I can't wait for the pictures. Too bad you can't call in "I'm tired because we were in Victoria all weekend and I ate too much and walked around too much and then there was the ferry boat home and ............."

You're entitled to an occasional yawn --or two!! What a totally awesome trip--you're a great tour guide!! Victoria is a very special place--very British. I love the Provincial Museum with the fabulous indigenous exhibits--very fine!!

Karen, it sounds like you, your mom & Carol had a perfect weekend. I love the kind where you can just basically take your time and enjoy the sights without having such a strict schedule. What a deal finding that restaurant too.

Karen I am really glad you enjoyed your jaunt. The gardens sound beautiful. I have not
been to the west coast. I have heard the rose garden is spetacular. Your hotel room
