Quilt With Us

This wall hanging was made from 9 Dresden plate blocks from the 1940s. I bought them from a friend with an antique store. Each block was made of 4 smaller fan blocks, so I took the big blocks apart and rearranged the fans into the baby bunting pattern. The fans were appliquéd on muslin and looked a little drab, so I appliquéd the blue quarter circles on each fan to perk them up a bit. It’s machine pieced, hand appliquéd and hand quilted and measures about 31” square.

I agree that the blue makes the whole thing go together. Congratulations!

Thanks everyone! I saw a lovely fan quilt on Pinterest with blue on the bottom part and thought it looked really nice. I did audition other solids, but the blue was my favorite. I had planned on also using blue for the binding, but when the time came, it looked like overkill, so I stayed with muslin. Can’t wait to show it to my friend at the antique store! Plus, it’s February, so all linens there are 20% off. Wooh hoo!

I love this idea! You did a great save of the plates. I would definitely give this a try some day. Thanks for sharing.

Love this!  The blue was a great choice.  And, for as gorgeous as this is in the vintage prints, I do think some of the modern stuff would also work with this layout.  It's so timeless.  Wow!

You added just the right touch.  I love the vintage prints, too.  I've always liked the fan-like look of the half- and 1/4 Dresdens.
