In my stash I have two vintage fabrics. One is a 1 yard piece of my great grandmother's apron. It is navy blue with little sprigs of flowers. Another is 4 or 5 yards of woven plaid (green & black) flannel. For many years woven flannel was not even available; flannels were all printed. This was given to me to use as a quilt back but I don't want to hide it there. I can't bring myself to cut them into little pieces unless I can show them off somehow. What would you suggest I do with these lovely old fabrics? PS. I don't want to put them in the same quilt.

Isn't it wonderful having those vintage pieces that are so precious and full of memories? Great suggestions. We've been at our daughter's for a couple of days helping them with a construction project and it is late now, so I'll try to post when I'm a little more coherent. I'm not sure I'll have any good ideas, but I'm too tired to think straight now. :D We did have a great time seeing "the little." He'll be 18 months on the 19th. His little legs walk miles in a day. It's so much fun trailing him around, watching him discover things.
Thank you for the suggestions! I like June's suggestion for an apron "for show". I could embroider on the pocket where the fabric came from, etc. And using the plaid in large blocks is also a good idea, I realize after I posted this that I could have, should have, included pictures of the fabric. My bad. I will post pictures next timer.
How about a big 9 patch out of the plaid alternating with a green or black solid and a solid block in between, maybe set on a diagonal?
I was thinking a runner from the apron...June has great ideas also...just jump in and it will come to you...
Apron fabric: How about making an apron to hang in your kitchen just for show; not to actually use. Plaid flannel: Use a pattern with large pieces made into large blocks; make sashing between blocks and borders from complementary colors. Or, just cut flannel into large blocks ( i.e. 12-16 inches) and complementary colors for sashing between and borders. Backing could solid black or green.
