Quilt With Us

I purchased a quilt on Craig's List. It was said to have feed sack squares. What it has is pieces that are more like shirting. These pieces are about 4.5 by 5.5 with three sides that are pinked. They have a number stamped on the back. The numbers are 85303, $10.00 H50, another is 65027,$8.00 F50, one says 12507, $14.00 L50 Imported, this piece is silky. Each has different numbers and a variety of prices. The quilt is darling, four patches, half square triangles and is hand stitched. I love the quilt and can hardly wait to hand quilt it but would like to know what these fabric squares are. My first thought was saleman's samples. A friend thought they might be mail order samples. Any ideas? Thanks.

When I ran a shirt factory the samples did come with numbers and prices. The prices show that the fabric is probably not that old, since wholesale price for top of the line English cotten was $5.oo a yard in the 1980.
Old quilts are fun. Reminds us to date and add a history letter to our quilts.
