What a great weekend it was! I took Friday off from work and took my time packing & heading north. I only had to go back once after I realized I'd forgotton my camera & my refrigerated food! Luckily I was only 6 miles down the road.
I made a pit stop at the Prime Outlets in Birch Run for a little retail therapy, stopped & got a Chai Creme Frappucino at Starbucks and got back on the road. The weather was blue skies all the way. I arrived at around 3pm. Got everything unloaded & set up and then kicked back in Caroline's comfy vintage rocker. Caroline & I visited & caught up on things. At 6 we went to dinner at a great restaurant called "The Willow Tree". Pretty good food and Caroline knows everyone there so it's like eating at someone's home.
There are three bedrooms in the upstairs guest quarters. I tried to find enough people to fill all three rooms, but it ended up being only me and one other quilter, Dan. SInce I arrived first, I got dibs on the room with the queen sized bed. Dan ended up with a twin bed in one of the other rooms but he did not mind.
Dan is an awesome quilter and won the MQN Best of Show award this year - very talented. He also has his own pattern design company and is a sales rep for Blank Quilting Fabrics and is soon to be the president of his local guild.
Saturday was another beautiful day - inside & out! I worked on putting together some blocks I'd had for a long time - I'd brought three projects with me in case I got bored with one. But I just worked on one and was very pleased to finish piecing together all of the blocks! Now I just have to trim the blocks & put the top together. Dan was working on a hand applique project of traditional Hawaiian blocks and also a paper pieced Mariner's Compass, which he finished, so he was happy as well. Caroline had a 40 percent off if you finish the bolt, so I had to scour the shop for almost gone bolts! Since I barely have any fabric at home (ha ha), I had to take advantage of this wonderful sale!
There were several visitors to the shop that day with EXCITING news! I'm going to post another blog entry with that news so stay tuned!!
We went to dinner at the Willow Tree & had another good meal!! We lasted until about 11pm and had to call it a night.
Sunday was another crystal clear day. We took our time doing a few last minute sewing things then packed & loaded. Neither of us wanted to leave as we were so relaxed & refreshed. I got home about 2:30 which was great as I could get my stuff out & unpacked, do laundry & get ready for the workday on Monday.
Dan & I decided to make it a 3X a year treat, so we scheduled another weekend in June and another in October. I think I'll try to take Monday off too so I can have four glorious days!!
Thanks for "listening" & I'll post pictures later.
