Quilt With Us

You may have noticed we’ve had a few changes in the past week. Our Connecting Threads website got a pretty new facelift, we’ve added brand new solids, semi solids and batiks, and we’ve lowered our prices on all fabrics. Whew!

Did I mention Batiks?

These things take time and talent to develop. So behind the scenes, we’ve made some major personnel changes. Melissa, formerly our Art Director for all three of our catalogs, is now Director of Connecting

Threads. A quilter herself, she now oversees every detail for our Connecting Threads products, catalogs and
website. Trust me, it’s a full plate! So now our fabric designers quilt designers, web graphics folks, etc that make CT happen, all work directly with Melissa. You’ll hear from Melissa here on QWU when she has new fabric collections and projects to tell you about. You might have noticed she also designs fabrics herself. Check out her newest oh-so-cute fabric collection, Winter Fun.

Did I mention we now have Batiks? :) In case you didn’t know, I’m a HUGE fan of batiks and I’ve been dreaming of the day we could carry them. But our challenges were to find a source that would be true to the age old process, while keeping the prices reasonable AND still use our US cotton. No easy task, but I’m tickled pink that we can now proudly share with you this fabulous new fabric collection.

We saw a real need for more website content and a full time QWU moderator. This too is a full time job. That’s me! You’ve been seeing my Techniques 2010 series that features a different quilting technique every month. I hope you’re enjoying and learning from them! But don’t worry, I’m still involved in most everything that is Connecting Threads! You might call me the “resident quilter” hahaha.

Did I mention Batiks? Oh, did I tell you they’re only $5.96 per yard???!!!

So let me talk a little more about our big changes in fabric. In the past, you’ve seen fabric collections that are always exclusive to us, but limited stock – when they sold

out, they were gone! We’ll still have those, and you’ll find them on our website under Limited Editions. Just like your favorite quilt shop, these collections go away after awhile to make room for more new collections.

But now we’ve added Solids and Mirage (semi-solids), with the intent to carry them every day. When they run out, we re-order and re-stock. If we are out, it should be temporary. And note the incredible new price – only $3.96 per yard and made from our US cotton! I love our new Mirage as a great basic blender. I plan to have many colors on hand for appliqué, borders and sashing.

Did I mention Batiks? We plan to keep these around too, but might update colors and designs here and there. Did I mention these too are made from our US cotton?!!! These batiks meet my personal high standards of clear beautiful colors (no muddiness you sometimes find), the design and color are the same on both sides, making them even easier to use in applique and paper piecing. But we’ve added our own special softness formula, so you’ll enjoy touching them too. No stiff stuff for us!

Finally, if you’re still reading, the most incredible point of all, in my opinion: We’ve lowered the price on our regular fabric prints…yes, those limited edition collections are now only $4.96 per yard. How do we do

that? Did we sacrifice quality? No! Because of you, our fabric business has grown and as we’ve grown, we’ve
been able to negotiate even better pricing. Unlike some big companies, as we’ve grown and obtained better prices, we’ve passed those savings on to you. Read more about how we do it:

And don’t forget to check out the new and very fabulous Batiks!

Thanks Karen and staff of CT. I'm thrilled to see the wonderful new selection of fabric and so great that includes batiks. The new prices that you have delivered to us is an encouragement in these times of job losses and homes lost. Prices of fabric here in Canada is much higher even with the postage we have a bargin and the quality is wonderful. Thank you.

Did someone say Batik? P.S. I used a package of children's drawing paper for the piecing. It was very cost effective since each quilt was about 160 - 4" squares. I enjoyed every minute of it!!
