Quilt With Us

What is your favorite quilting magazine?

Quilters I need help. It is time to renew what magazines I have been getting for quilting and I do not know if I want to get the same ones again. What is your favorite and why? Which ones offer the best instructions? I am still a beginner and which do you think offer the most ideas. Personally for myself I do not like ones that offer a series to finish a quilt. I want to see the whole product in front of me. I guess I do not visualize well. Well wish I could sew all day but housework is calling.

Debbie, I'm behind on catching up on the posts online but anyway........my very favorite is Quiltmaker. I always find a couple things I really want to try. It seems to be more my comfort level.

I like and subscribe to American Patchwork & Quilting. I subscribe to Auilter's Home by Mark Lipinski for other quilting facts and light reading.

Hi Debbie! First of all, what part of central Illinois are you. I hope I haven't asked you this before! I am from Mt. Vernon, IL and am also about 90 miles east of the Ole Miss river. I tell people it is where Interstates 57 and 64 intersect. Anyway, I am also a fairly new quilter in my opinion as I dabbled with it since a teenager but really got into it big time in the past two years. It has really become an obsession and passion with me. I too have to work so have to fit it in with my work time and family time. I have 5 children between my DH and myself and there is someone coming and going constantly around here. I have kidded my DH that we should just hang a sign outside the front door stating that this is Southers Bed & Breakfast! Ok, about the magazines. Good topic. I subscribe to Fons & Porter and American Patchwork and Quilting (by Better Homes & Gardens). They both have lots of teaching articles every issue. I buy others on occasion but only if there is really something that catches my eye. Quilters Home by Mark Lipinski is just fun reading. I am like Janet though, after a while most of patterns start repeating themselves. If you want to look at a site that is informative too for quilting techniques, go to (allpeoplequilt.com ) Also if you go to YouTube and go to quilting, you will be amazed at how many tutorials are on there. Nice to meet you!

Hard to pick just one, isn't it! For me, I enjoy alot of them, & sometimes, it depends on who sends me the greatest deal to subscribe again, or renew. I have to be honest, I don't get to hang out with quilters here much, so quilt mags & these online groups & forums are my quilting company. Alot do seem to be the same old stuff quite frequently, but also think about, it is usually cheaper, & you save money, by subscribing, versus, if you pick them up in the stores all the time anyway. I really enjoy getting them in the mailbox though, like having a quilty friend come visit for awhile . There is a great variety, just be sure & check the cover price before subscribing, & make sure you are saving money by doing so! I do go through & weed mine out occasionally too, as I don't have the room here to keep them forever.....nice thought though, lol!

I am new to quilting and I like the Fons and Porter Easy Quilts. the only way you can get it is at the store. Otherwise you have to join the Quilters Club of America to subscribe to it. I just got mine so it should be on the shelf soon. I like it because it gives pictures of the whole piecing process and even a diagram of how they quilted it.

I love McCall's Quick Quilts. It has lots of projects as well as quilt patterns. It gives clear yardage amounts and sometimes has different color combinations. If you want a magazine that is "fun" to read cover to cover get Quilter's Home. Very funny and addictive!

I love Fons&Porter for the patterns and excellent instructions, but my favorite is Mark Lipinski's Quilters Home for slightly raunchy humor and a magazine I can read from cover to cover - very few patterns though.

I like "Love of Quilting" by Fons and Porter. They have patterns of assorted skill levels and often show you how a quilt would look completely different using different fabrics. I love their tips too.

American Patchwork & Quilting is my favorite, but I like the others, too.
