What was your favorite Christmas or Hanukkah gift as a child?

We had the grandsons this weekend, and we are dragging!!!! lol The topic came up, what was your favorite gift.  Mine was this gorgeous bride doll. I cherished her...she went everywhere with me. Hubby's was his first BB gun.

The question today is...tell us about your favorite toy!

The difference between a gift and a present...

A gift is something you want the person to have.

A present is something they want and you bought it for them.

How life has changed. Now our cell phones are our watches and game boards! Our grandsons still like board games. Now with some of the games, there’s a lot of animation from the players. Heads Up is a favorite party game.

My favorite gift from when I was a kid was a box of games. I still have it. It's in a red cardboard box with suitcase latches and a metal handle. I can't remember how many games are in it, but I know it has bingo, a type of scrabble, checkers, chinese checkers I think, dominoes. Just went in the basement to find it but it has other games stacked on top of it. Probably not a good environment for it!

My favorite gift was a wristwatch my uncle gave me when I was 12 and home for the Christmas school vacation with the mumps!   My face was so swollen it hurt to smile, but I was so happy!  I don't know why I needed a wristwatch, but it sure made me feel grown up!

Barb- you reminded me of the saw horses my dad made for my brother and I. It wasn’t Christmas, but it felt like it when he gave them to us! Wish I still had it.

Barb, that’s funny! I played Clue recently with the 11yr. Old grandson. I learned so much about how he thinks. It started a lot of mini conversations on various topics. Found out he doesn’t want to have daughters, because girls are always screaming!!!!

I'm not sure about a favorite gift. I do remember receiving 3 Monopoly games one year. My folks and both sets of grandparents each got me one. No matter where I went, we could play the game.

I do remember my parents buying me a Barbara Jo doll, but the best part of that gift was the crib my dad made for her.  That crib was used by my dolls, then my sister's, then my nieces's dolls.  I wonder if someone still has it.

When I was 15 my mom and dad gave me an outfit made of a plaid wool pleated skirt and sweater to match.  I know it had to be more than they could really afford, but my mom knew I wanted it when I saw it in the store.  I cherished it for a long time.

That is so nice that you still have her, Sharon. Geez, all the original clothes and shoes! The box is probably worth as much as the doll!
