Quilt With Us

I had the opportunity to accompany DH on a business trip to Fairbanks, Alaska. What a neat place! But, the best part....the quilt shops in log cabins! I felt really silly in Material Girls oogling the cool "Alaska" quilts, but I did it anyway. It was the experience of what do I look at next, what do I want, oh my! I finally settled on a particular local designer pattern and polar bear fabric. Will I try to go back? Absolutely! The people were welcoming and warm; the scenery amazing. But then, quilters are awesome people!

Thanks for all the comments! We will definitely be going back. I want to go to Denali (sp?) and see the wildlife. I love Moose and Reindeer! There simply wasn't time this trip.

I'm glad you enjoyed your trip to Alaska. I live in Eagle River outside of Anchorage. My favorite quilt shop in Faribanks was the Snow Goose, but it closed. Haven't been up there for about 9 years, boy does time fly. If anyone is coming to Anchorage, there's an Alaskan theme quilt shop downtown Anchorage called The Quilted Raven they have fantastic kits and patterns. Other shops in the area are The Quilt Tree, Seams Like Home, Dina's (Dina's is in Eagle River).

We lived in Homer, Alaska, for two years--my favorite place I've ever lived. Always go on business trips with your husband if you possibly can--my DH and I built a lot of happy memories that way. Sometimes we could take the kids, too, and they still talk about places we visited. If you get back to Alaska, buy a Milepost--tells you what you're seeing and what's available mile by mile. Homer has a great quilt shop too--"Seams to Be."

AK is an awesome state. We traveled there in '98 and plan to go back next year. We're going in the motorhome along with 2 other couples (in their RV's) and are already getting excited about it. I will definitely look for Material Girls fabric shop. I didn't quilt before, but will look for more shops along the way this time. Thanks for mentioning this shop.
