Every December two quilting friends and I actually sign a contract to keep the spirit of Christmas in our hearts all year long by committing to at least one gift per month. The planning for the next Christmas begins the week between Christmas and New Years. In the event that one of us misses our deadline, we pay a chocolate penalty to the others. We are each just competitive enough that only a few times a year does any chocolate actually change hands. When Christmas arrives there is much less of the last minute pressure.

When everything's done and
My house is all clean, and
The kids are at school, and
The errands are run,

Only then do I feel
I can go to my "space."
It's the one all set up
With Janome in place.

My holiday sewing
Is infrequent - at best -
Mostly blankets for others
To help line their nests.

But sometimes I sew
A spare turkey or two,
Or a Santa and helpers
In a red or green hue.

More time in a day
Is what all sewers could use.
But until that day comes,
Mostly sleep we will lose!

Congratulations Barb, Jane and Judith! They are all wonderful ideas. Barb you are way ahead of me already. Love your poem Jane. Judith, I do that when I want to quilt during the year too. Have fun with your GC. Did someone say chocolate penalty??? That is some penalty.

Thanks! What a great surprise. I will share my prize with the other two quilters in on the contract. I guess I'd also better spring for some chocolate! By the way, we did renew our contracts for 2010 and our first gifts are well on their way to being done :)
