No, my son is a Librarian for the Seward Borough (county/parish in the "lower 48" as Alaskans phrase it) library in Seward, AK. He has been there for 1-1/2 years now, starting 4 years ago as librarian for Havalook School in the native village of Kaktovik, AK. above the arctic circle on the Beaufort Sea, inhabited by polar bears and whales! His wife is an EMT/Firefighter and sidelines as a baker/fermenter for a natural foods grocery in Seward. They recently purchased their first home there a few months ago. No grandchildren for me, but they have a Ragdoll cat and a mixed breed dog, rescued from the local shelter where DDIL also volunteered as a dog-walker!
Hi Pam, pleased you did that trip. We did almost identical trip a few years ago. The grand canyon, just left one speechless, the vast beauty, the sheer size and the colours were hard to put into words. All the national parks just amazing, remember, I come from a small island, I think the size of Florida so everything is overwhelming. Vegas was like being in a fantasy bubble, then the engineering expertise to build the Hoover dam, all so incredible.
This year, we are going to New York, staying in Manhattan for a week, then onto Pennsylvania in April, if you have any tips for a British tourist, do let me know. David and I are looking forward to the trip. Looking forward to finding some quilt shops too. Ttfn Marianne UK
Hey girl, Have you gone Awol again? What are you working on in your sewing room. I'm still plugging away on the quilts for my grandchildren. I'm anxious to get them done and move on to another project.
Hi, Pam. Couldn't comment on the Vermont blog post, so I just wanted to comment here. What a fun trip! I, too, always wonder how folks decide to settle *here* (wherever). Sometimes I wonder if they closed their eyes and wherever their finger pointed on a map, that's where they went! :)
PS: When I go anywhere with Todd, I usually implement the "travel dehydrated" method! :)
Nice to get your comment on my post, Pam. Hand work is nice for a while. Kind of makes us slow down for a while. Hope you have an enjoyable day today. We are getting thunderstorms, my poor dog is not happy following me wherever I go. I'm trying to yo get knocked over by her. Lol
Pam I would love to have you come play in my sewing room. I have friends who come and we sew together. It's smaller then the one I had up at the house. I'm going to leave that one on my page to remind me of all the fun days I spent in the "green" room. This one is cozy and most of the things I had out in the open at the house is in the closet so my actual sewing space isn't much different.
Thank you for your kind comment on my crazy quilt! Working on it really helped me as I was coming to terms with the loss of my mother as I knew her. I'm so glad you like it. I always enjoy your posts. I sent the one of the woman toasting her friends to my daughters and nieces, warning them for what they're in for with my sister and I once we hit the nursing home.
Hi Pam, I can't wait to see your table runner when you get it done. I'm thinking I would like to make one for myself. I hated to part with it. I just went and bought 6 yards of 3 different Christmas prints that were half price. And fabric to make my kitchen curtains and a new pair for my bedroom. I hate my bedroom curtains. I have the fabric to make my living room drapes so I will be busy for awhile.
Hi Pam. This has not been the best Summer of my life. Trying to take care of Bud here with a splint on my hand was difficult and then he went into the hospital and back to the nursing home for rehab. He finished his rehab and he insisted on coming back to Calais. I flat out refused to bring him back to the apartment so he is down the road in Assisted Living. He is not a happy camper but I refuse to give in to him. I love my apartment. It's small but cozy. I still haven't made my drapes for the living room or curtains for the kitchen but I haven't had much sewing time. After Bud went into the hospital and I got the splint off my hand I had to go up to the house and finish moving. Just this week I can say every thing I want is here and put away. I still have to get one of the guys who work here put up my curtain rods and a couple of floating shelves. The shelves are going in my sewing room. There is a lot of activities at the Rec. hall. A short walk for me. The thing I like the most with Bud gone is I can go back to my sewing group and my bingo group. when he was here I couldn't leave him alone as he was falling.
So things are looking up at the moment. Nice to hear from you. Irene
How great Thou Art is right...Oh now I really miss New England,,Thanks,,We really don't have any of that over here,,I just may have to plant some sugar maples ..Thanks bunches..and they really are Beautiful...What a background!
Morning Pam, It's been very hot here as well. I use to can vegetables and deer meat but haven't had a garden or deer meat in years. I agree with your post on my blog about not taking care of Bud and getting disabled myself. I was getting more tired every day from caring for him. My butt didn't hit a chair that I didn't have to get up and wait on him for something. And every meal time he had to go to the bathroom and I would have to leave my plate to help him. So in addition to caring for his needs, I wasn't even able to eat. No more in home care for that boy.
Pam - Great ideas for the toe bag and suit carrier - making them out of lined drapes. You must have been channeling Maria from the Sound of Music that day! :D I'd love to see the suit carrier to get an idea for a pattern, so could you pack it up and come visit? :) (My house is clean, so come quickly!!!!)
Pam, Bud has completed his therapy and is waiting to get into the Assisted Living home here in Calais. I'm going to put our name in Methodist Homes, senior village. I'm going to have to close up the house because there is no way I can manage the bills here alone. The State takes his entire income and the reason he can't live here is he can't climb stairs. And we have one bathroom and its on the second floor.
Pam, you are more then welcome to play in my sewing room anytime. This is my favorite room in my whole house and I'm in it most of the day. If I don't feel like sewing I'm cutting 4&5 in squares and 2-1/2 in. strips out of small pieces of leftover fabric. The red table runner I made was made from my own fabric. I hope your getting some much needed warm weather up there. I was out digging around the yard and cleaning up Yesterday. Getting ready to start mowing. Yeahhhhhh about time, wouldn't you say?
