Thanks Bev. I certainly will check out the videos. I have made 9 quilts for my grands for Christmas, one more to go, and have had trouble with each one! I am so annoyed with the lady who showed me what and how to load a quilt. She came when I had the very first quilt with the same problem and still insisted I should pull it tighter.
The challenge is out, lets see how many of us can join the wonderful new campaign called Stitching for Pink !!! Starts today until 30 October. Its gonna be so much fun with 10 projects to complete. Come on Embroiderers lets unite and join the fight against Breast Cancer !!!
Thanks Bev, for the tips on the batting. I love your pic. Are the butterflies, star, and some others done with batics? I love color and I like making "pictures" with fabric. Was the butterfly paper pieced? It has a lot of little pieces it looks like. Would love more ideas and tips anytime.
Love and Hugs, Dee
Well, family from Ohio has been here since last weekend - so the quilt machine is quiet. But - I did finish the quilt I wanted to get done for Christmas! So I am so happy! And I do have one on the rack - ready to quilt as soon as company leaves - this one is for my grandson. He won't take the one off his bed I made him 4 yrs. ago and it's getting worn - so he needs one to swap out with. I might have to take a picture and post it. You have been so kind in offering me so much help and suggestions - it was nice to have someone sympathize with my pain and frustrations. LOL Merry Christmas!!!
Well - I actually got the machine working and completed the quilt I wanted to get done for a Christmas gift. However - I'm not sure what you mean by the thread guide on top of the machine? According to my directions I thought you only put it through the little round guide when you are winding the bobbin. You have been such a blessing - I haven't had a moment to get online and let you know that I got it running. It's 11:40 pm and I'm just now checking my email. Have an blessed Christmas. Jesus is the Reason for the Season!
Thanks so much for the encouragement. I had to just get up and walk away from it today. Went out to dinner with a friend then went and helped decorate the church for Christmas - needed that! I've come to the conclusion I will not get this working in time to get a quilt done by Christmas. And that's got to be ok - that still is a process - but will be okay. I am one that does not like unfinished projects sitting around. It makes me a bit crazy. I will go down and once again try tomorrow - but hopefully will not spend any large amount of time there . I have to decorate my own home! LOL
Hey Bev - I just got your email and tried to call - but it was 7 pm EST - I'm not sure what time zone your are in. You are so much more adventurous than I am by looking at your quilts. I've made several quilts - but own none. LOL I ordered the quilting foot and got it today - but didn't get a different plate - is that necessary? My thread keeps breaking now. And I'm not sure why. When I was sewing with the machine before I put it on the quilt rack - it seemed to work fine - so I don't think it's the thread. I have double checked to make sure it's threaded correctly. Any suggestions?
Hi Bev, I've been in guelph since I was 15, so yes, most of my life. Guelph has grown so much in the last ten years you wouldn't recognize it. Houses have been built all the way out #6 to where the pergola golf place was. They just closed last year after 40 years in business, I guess they sold the land to a developer. I don't know my way around Kitchener very well(except to get to quilt stores)LOL but Its changed a lot as well. Why did you move south?
Hi Bev.....have been on a Shop Hop with friends from out of town. So I'm back tracking all the posts. Thanks for the info on the thread. I did get a few types of quilting thread while on the shop hop to try out on my long arm to see what one works best. I also called Baby Lock to see what the recommended thread for that machine is. They were very nice and read the list to me. So it will be trial and error for awhile. Happy Quilting.......
I know it has been a long time since I have been on here we had to go out of town for a while due to 2 funerals that we had to go to. So unfortunally I have not been able to do much quilting. I finally got my quilt on the quilter and now I am trying really hard to learn how to quilt on it. This thing in some ways has been a nightmare I am really hoping that I will be able to get the hang of it here real soon. Would really like to get all of my UFO'S done I am tired of looking at them. It sounds as if you have been very busy with your Grandson and all of the quilting you have been doing. When I get a little time tonight I wll get on and look at them all. I would like to figure out how to get mine on here also my Son and Daughter are good at doing that so maybe I will get them to put mine up for me . Like to show them off. Have a good day. Talk to you later
Here is the link to the "Fast & Free" DVD's by Patsy Thompson.
Just copy and paste the address into your web browsers address line. She has great dvd's on quilting.
Here is a link that will give you other links to a whole lot of quilting dvd's and videos. Happy Quilting! Julia
Yes, I'm back to the reality of NE Indiana...cold, gloomy and even had to go to work on Saturday! We had a wonderful time in CA but I missed my machine and my fabric! Only a quilter would understand what that's like! I'm having a ball with my QBot...I did my first 2 quilts for pay...they were baby quilts so it didn't take me too long. When I gave those back to the lady, she gave me a wall hanging to quilt for her. But it's a Christmas one so there's no hurry. Right now I'm trying to finish a baby quilt for a friend to give away and the baby is due anytime so that's on my agenda for today. I played hooky from church-told my husband that between working yesterday and having the grandkids overnight that I wanted a day to myself to "regroup" from vacation (code word for playing in my sewing room!). What are you up to lately?
My frame is the Next Generation Inspiration one which also will do up to a king-sized quilt. A friend arrived today to help me assemble the beast, but we went to lunch first and ended up going to shop for fabric instead. So now my cats are still playing with all the nuts & bolts and I'm annoyed with myself. The 31 page assembly manual is daunting. I just finished designing a flannel quilt in bold colours on a black background - sort of like an Amish quilt. I used the Quilt Wizard program which is a snap to use. I tried to upload a picture for you but no luck, just a lot of gobbledy-gook right in the middle of this text - hmmm. Huge avalanches of snow are now cascading off the metal roof and I wish I was in Vera Cruz Mexico where my son now is.
Yes, I'm living in the sticks and fed up with this winter with snow half way up the windows and another storm due tonight. The wildlife is great though and summers do make up for the harsh winters. Right now however I'd trade for Arizona! I just heard of a government incentive for small businesses that might finance the Q-Bot - must check this out. Right now I'm assembling my quilt frame which is a royal pain and I've procrastinated too long - 1000's of parts! Ottawa was nice to visit but colder still. My son lives there. Are you working on anything at the moment?
Hi Bev. I've been away in Ottawa & just read your comment. I have checked out the Q-bot website & it does look wonderful. Pike Bay is located on the North Bruce Peninsula between Wiarton & Tobermory. It is a small, extremely pretty village located right on the shores of Lake Huron. This area is a world biosphere with wonderful wild ferns & orchids and a mecca for scuba divers. We have two quilt shops right on the peninsula and a number of others within driving distance. Amazingly we also have a Husqvarna dealership, but just don't try to find a WalMart! Vermont is an area I'd love to explore as I was only there one time and it was beautiful. Thank you for your response.
hi bev! sorry for the late response. i've been busy with a sick boy! how long have you been in vermont? what made you move there? i lived in edmonton my whole life, but moved to a small town in saskatchewan in october. it is neat finding canadian quilters on this site. i wish we had more resources like this availiable here. i find it hard to find quilting friends that are close!! do yo have any pictures of your projects? i'd love to see some of the stuff you've done!
