Thanks for the compliments - yes they were doll clothes for the American Girl dolls - but they fit all 18 inch dolls. I have several patterns - some Simplicity, some Butterick, and some McCalls. I also have a book - can't think of the name but if you are interested let me know and I will find it and tell you!! It has several patterns all in the same book.
I am not really sure what the relationship between the nerve and pilates is, I have been thinking about that since I answered you on IQ. It might be the disc problems that I have that causes the pinched nerve. I know that when I don't do pilates or stretches I start hurting more. I blame mine on Navy days when DH was gone, and I would do whatever I had to do, plus moving, packing, all that stuff that comes with being a Navy wife! Who knows, really, what caused it. Not me, I just know one day it started. Ugh.
Paula, I understand how keeping the heart ache of going thru the end with your sister away from the board gave you a little oasis of "normalcy". We lost Jeff's dad 4 year ago in Oct, but it was sudden, same with his brother 10 years ago. Either way, it's devastating. It will be hard now that Kara's gone home, but take it slowly - remember to breathe.
Awww, that's got to be hard on Em! One of my Army mom friend's son is in A'stan and he's getting moved. He just let her know that so that she wouldn't send his Christmas box as it wouldn't get forwarded; We get to "chat" with Travis on facebook sometimes. He finally has internet in his room, so the chances of catching him online are a little better. Natalie's boyfriend siad they took out the ATT phone bank at their camp, so I don't know how that's going to work for phone calls - they all have ATT phone cards!
We're really excited for the new baby! My sister has had 5 miscarriages, so to get this far is such a blessing. We know it's a girl and my MOm is really pulling for her to come on Jan 1 whih is my Mom's birthday!
Hey Paula - I'm doing ok, but more importantly, how are you? You've been in my thoughts - it's never a good time to lose a dear sister, but just before the holidays has to be especially hard. Know that we're here for you. I'm so glad you've had this extra time with Kara.
I only have a couple of little things left to get for Christmas. We celebrated with the kids while Travis was home, so they have most of what they're getting. It's definitely different this year. I'm doing a lot of baking this weekend. Thanks on the quilts. Mom's was paper pieced so it looks a lot more complcated that it really is. The Pokey Puppy was my sister's favorite book when she was little, so of course her baby needed thia quilt the baby is due the beginning of Jan.
Take Care Paula
Paula-Even though you have been preparing yourself for quite some time for this, it sure doesn't make it any easier or less painful. Know that you and your whole family will be in my prayers as your sister prepares for her journey. A big hug for you and we are with you in spirit.
Blessings to you as you go through this sad time with your sister. I am so glad you had a chance to spend these last months with her. You are all so fortunate to have each other but I can only imagine how difficult this is. Your family will be in my prayers. Take care.
Paula, I wanted to thank you for the lovely post of my son Jeff. He had an operation 7 months ago on Easter Sunday and got a kidney. He was living on a machine since 2003. I am thrilled and so pleased to see him living life again. I just have to share it. Thank you for your post...and keep in touch. Hugs Morgan
Hi Paula, soory it has taken me so long to answer!!1 Yes, I care for a little guy that will be 2 Nov. 20, we have had him since he was 6 weeks old so is very special to us. Don't really have i special place I get my fabric, just when ever I am near a shop. I have a stash that is something else but always don't have the "right " one so must buy more!!
Hi Paula I put more pics in the album of the AQS show, beings you are a member you can see them all I have put on already, Will put more on in a few days. Sure wish you would of been able to come. There is next year. It is October 6-9th next year.
Thanks for your kind words. It's great that we can have a place to share ideas and support each other. It's funny, I only joined this website in July, and by the end of August, my life turned upside down with my father first moving in with me and then into assisted living. It's been a steep learning curve! But the adjustments I've made can't compare with his, so I can't complain. I hope we can support you as you support your sister.
Paula that is really interesting, I didn't know that could could happen and I didn't know it could affect you. Mom is not as bad as that, she has moments that things don't click, then about 15 minutes later she is fine. We thought she wasn't getting enough oxygen to her brain because unless she exerts herself she doesn't breathe deep enough, very shallow. She says she does feel better when she goes to therapy, they only take her 2 times a wk. I think that is minimum. At least she gets some exercise. Susan
Yes, I will probably join the caregivers group, I really love my mom and want her to just stay around for a long time, but that is selfish, I know it is, but its out of love. I know she is not doing well, thats why I stayed home from the show. I really wanted to go badly but there will be othe shows. I just can't take the time to leave her when she doesn't feel good. Last time her cold turned into pneumonia. She takes nebulizer treatments and that helps a bit. She has very hard time catching her breath if she gets hurried or exerts herslef at all. They make her use the walker, because if she doesn't keep working at it she will get weaker. You know all this, but you don't know what else to do. We are noticing more and more her confusion and forgetfulness. If she does 7 minutes a day on the bike it helps alot to clear her thinking. But congested heart faliure is pretty unpredictable. So I keep spending time with her. Thanks for listening Paula.
Paula--I'm really excited about the response to the new group. I know I'm finding helpful information for my parents and DH. One of the things that would attract my son to Iowa would be the weather--it's one of the things we liked best about Alaska. His interest is leading him toward agricultural applications (insect ecology), so it might be good for him to have some education and experience outside the south. It would be nice for me to have him at UGa, because he would only be 1 1/2-2 hours away, but we'll see.
We are really enjoying having him home. Poor kid is so bored during the day tho. I've taken some time off work, but can't take it all off. His friends are all in school or working too. It's a hard time of year to be home - too chilly to do much outside, but no snow for snowboarding or skiing. I think Jeff's going to take several days off now that his big project is finished. I'm kind of down too, which seems weird, but he's out with friends and I know he wants to do that, but I'm selfish and just want him to stay home with us! lol
Kurt is doing as well as could be expected. They're more hopeful of saving his arm at this point. His spirits are good tho from what I've been told, and that helps so much!
Travis goes back Sunday the 8th, his birthday. His flight out is 6 am, but I'm so happy to get to spend any part of his birthday with him. A'stan is awful scary! What does Em hear from her bf?
Paula--welcome to the Caregivers group. I'm looking forward to getting to know you. I've become very curious about Iowa because it is one of the places DS is looking at for grad school. I bet five daughters do keep you busy--my one keeps me busy enough (LOL).
Hi Paula, Yes I did the quilt with the hands. It was a prayer quilt I used with my Sunday School kids. I've made several over the years with my teaching. They are great quilts. I used iron on (Steam A Seam) then stitched around the hands to secure them on good.
Here's where you can find directions for the journal cover: http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/quarterlychallenge/Get-Organized.pdf You use those inexpensive composition books in them.
The princess tote was great fun. The castle and crown blocks I got at: http://www.paperpanache.com/ I designed the tote around the castle block. I'm going to be making another one or two of those.
I'm glad you like my projects - they have been fun to do. Thank you.
Paula-Just thought that I touch base with you to see how you are doing??? have you rethought about joining us at least for 1 night in Des Moines? I know you have a lot on your plate right now, but even try to get away to join us for dinner on Wednesday night. I'm sure you could use a night away and have a few laughs. Have not heard yet on my coworker. Her doctor was on call yesterday and said that if he heard anything, he would call her right away otherwise it would be tomorrow. So I'm being optimistic for her and selfishly, myself. If I get a call to come in and work for her tomorrow afternoon, I'll know that it wasn't good news. She is such a great gal and she and I get along so well. We are alot alike, same sense of humor, personality etc. Once she was ready for me to stop "babysitting" her and she could work on her own, I really missed seeing her and working together on a regular basis. Keep good thoughts!
