You're never too old to have a change of perspective . . .

I sewed mostly clothing by machine for about 20 years. When I first started quilting, I did not like the look of machine quilting AT ALL and i shunned it altogether. I developed a love of handwork so hand applique and hand quilting are my strengths and reflect my high quality standards. So, until recently, I have always machined pieced and hand quilted all of my quilts for the 25 years or so. The recent change to this stubborn perspective came about because I want to get more quilted pieces done and done sooner.

With the beautiful and wondrous quilting thread color options, I have been exploring machine quilting!  Free-motion quilting is still coming along very slowly but it is getting a little better. No, I'm not going to give up hand quilting but I will save that for smaller pieces or heirloom projects. For now, getting the project done and on to the next one is very satisfying!  Happy quilting to all!

Hi all,

I have missed visiting with my friends here on this site. Things have been crazy/busy for me this year and I am still working on making time for quilting. So I wanted to share about an upcoming event. Actually, I am really looking forward to it as I have needed to set aside some time to just play with my quilting projects and hang out with other fun quilters.  Hope that some of you can join us!

Denise I just saw your friend request.  I'm so sorry to have taken so long to respond - of course I accept your request.

Hi, Lisa! Welcome to the site. If you liked what the Techniques group looked like, check out Love of Art Quilts and Thread painting groups. You always learn something from these gals and we're all pretty much in the same groups! lol  (We actually do exchange pertinent information when we're not chatting about our lives! ) If you want to get creative, come join us! (we're also together in an ATC/Post Card group and just completed a PC swap there).

Hi Lisa. Welcome to QWU community. Thank you for your comments on my page. I was not very fond of batiks until I made my first batik quilt...a tumbling block quilt. I have made 4 since and they were all for friends except the one in my avatar. It is Judy Neimeyer's Feathered Star. I still need to quilt it - hopefully in 2015. It will be a wall hanging. I love the quilt you made for your husband. I can't imagine doing that much handwork.

Hi Lisa,
When I saw you are from Washington ad well I hurried over to see where. Looks as though we are a ways apart. We have friens in the Tru-Cities and go through your town when visiting. Has been quite a while though since traveling much. Retiring and moving has taken up much of our time and energy lately. As for my permanent quilting studio it will be spring sime time before we will be able to get the basement leak fixed. So am in the spare room for now. Works well although it's small so things cannot be put away yet. But it will get done in time and at least I have a dedicated sewing space.

Take care and have fun with your hubby's quilt. Look forward to a photo if it. I just finished an angel wall hanging and three pillow cases and working onn another. Need everything finished by next weekend as my sister will be here from SW Washington for Christmas.

Thanks for the comment, Lisa. I am having fun with the whole process of quilting. I've never been much into hobbies, and I never imagined I'd be doing something as a hobby that is so totally engrossing.

Thanks Lisa for visiting my page. The bed runner was a Jelly Roll batiks...jewel tones. It was a wedding gift for a couple from India. They were thrilled. I have one in neutral colors that I love. Easy fast project!

Hi Lisa, checked out the pictures that is one beautiful quilt. I have done one quilt with hand quilting but the only hand piecing I do is hexies that travel with me. I am too slow for anything else and my eyesight is not what it used to be. hope you have a nice evening.

Thanks Lisa for your compliments on my 'Fantasy Blooms' . It was so fun to make. Also looks like you're new to the site, so let me say welcome. This is a great site to be a part of some great groups. So many diverse, fun gals (and guys) to share with and learn from.
