Want to make a pinwheel baby quilt. HELP

Posted on September 27, 2015 at 5:19pm 5 Comments

I want to make a pinwheel quilt for 2 babies at my church. I know the pattern but I don't know a good size to make. How do I determine the size of the blocks? I want it to be a good size so that it can be used for a while, especially since colder weather is coming. Can someone help me with size determination.

Hello everyone
It has been a while since I had posted anything. I look at this site daily but have not had anything to add.
My sewing journey has started again and I am happy about that. Will be sewing some charity quilts and this always makes me feel good. Just wanted everyone to know that I still enjoy this site and will be more active.
I promise. See you later.

Hello Ladies and Gents
I joined a few days ago and this is my first post. Have not sewed for a couple of days, my work schedule gets in the way of my fun. Just wanted to say I am glad I joined this group and look forward to making many friendships. Also enjoying reading all the post. Love the pictures.

Hi Janae, the size of blocks for a baby quilt i have made in the past was 9 inch sq. You can make it as wide and as long as needed, be it for a cot or a single bed, its up to you to decide.. i usually put a narrow and slightly wider border around the quilts too. Hope this helps a little.

Welcome.......I too am pretty new to the group...but having a blast. My work schedule is also very hectic. I check in when I can so I can try to keep up. Well, I have to work tomorrow so I just wanted to "stop by" and say hello....B

Janae - sorry it took so long to get back to you with the name of the quilt. First I had to find time to get to my stash of magazines and then once I started poring over them - well, you know how it is - all sorts of pictures and patterns to drool over and get sidetracked with. But - I finally found it. It was from a McCall's Quilting - October of 2006. The designer is Lise Neer. Be sure to post a picture if you make one. I found some round motif prints and cut them out in a square to add some variety to the nine-patches. Good luck.

Hi, Janae! (What a pretty name!) Welcome to the Connecting Threads site and the Love of Art Quilts group. There are an incredible amount of variations in quilters and their styles on here and they welcome all comers! Some are beginners and some are professionals who actually make a living doing what we all love. Can't wait to see what you've created (And are willing to show us! *smile*) Personally, my stuff always looks better from a distance! : )
Again, Welcome!

Hi Bree - Thanks for your comment on my black and white quilt. I liked it too. The pattern is Twist & Turn by D. Hall Designs. Just google for D. Hall Designs and you can order it from them or I have seen it in many quilt shops; however, the picture on the pattern does NOT do it justice.

Thank you for the nice comment about my tumbling blocks quilt. I gave it to my neighbor last night and she loved it. There really was no pattern. I saw it in an old Singer book I have and just kinda copied and made what I wanted. It is just tumbling blocks appliqued onto a background piece with borders then I just channel quilted through the background fabic.
Happy quilting
Happy quilting!
