The blocks are lovely--does that book have those blocks with a black background? The medallion of Charlotte's Quilt has me intrigued--love your colors and the flow of the design!! Keep up the great work!!
Jean: There's only one word for your applique - exquisite! I so admire those who do that work. When this project is completed it will indeed, be a masterpiece. I also have to say I love the photo of your kitty. It reminds me of our Blackbeard who can usually be found in the same position. Joyce
Hi Jean--No, I've never heard of Aie Rossmann--is she European? Her book sounds interesting! Yes, needleturn is the only technique for me--that's what I teach, and it's amazing what a beginner can do! I've tried the hundreds of other methods, but I can do it as well and so much faster by needleturn. Did you see the Quilt show in Chicago this Spring? You get a very good version of the Houston show!
Jean, I also had the idea to increase the size of the blocks to 10-1/2 inches (copy at 150%) and adding a 2" sashing in between the blocks to show them off better. Also you'd end up with a King size quilt. What do you think?
Hello Jean, I do several types of hand applique and also love machine applique. I have used needle turn and like it (I had to force myself to get used to it). I have the Aie Rossmann book you are using. She is a great quilt designer and I love her patterns. Have you noticed the quality of the applique she uses as examples in her book? I was surprised. The close ups show that she is a better pattern drafter than she is an appliquer. I don't know if I'll ever get around to making that quilt, but it is a WHIM (works hidden in my mind) of mine. And I can see that your stitches don't have to be perfect for the quilt as a whole to be totally stunning.
Thank you Jean. I appreciate your comments very much. I love your quilts too. My favorite quilts are pieced with applique or just plain applique. I like both hand and machine applique. I love to hand quilt too, but will have many of mine machine quilted by a good friend who does a great job for me. Your beautiful little girl under one of the quilts is adorable. Your cat is adorable too.
