I just returned from a fabulous Quilting Retreat with my Beaver Creek Quilter buddies. The Retreat was held at Bridge Creek Cottage in Augusta, WI. It is a wonderful place for a retreat as they can accommodate 20 people. It is reasonably priced as we chose to do our own cooking. You can check it our at  www.bridgecreekcottage.com

Have any of you tried needle tatting.  I could not get the hang of shuttle tatting but I have enjoyed needle tatting.  Made a medallion right off the bat. Bought a package deal.  With a book and needle, there is also a tape that I got.  By now there is probably a dvd.  I started this before dvds were the popular mode.  I haven't done it for a while and now that I have read all of the comments here I might just get out all of my stuff and go at it again.  I find that I always seem to do more buying and less doing.  Shopping for materiels is so much fun.

I just finished a small memory quilt for a friend's birthday.  Did a 91/2" block, put on a border and binding.  Had collected different charms for different areas that pertained to her and sewed them on.  She loved it.  Hope to hear from all of you. Hoping to do another one for a friend who is a breast cancer survivor for Christmas.  I plan to use all Quest for the Cure and pink fabrics for hers.

Hello everyone,

What is everyone working on? I am currently working on tatted snowflakes for my Christmas tree this year....knitting a blanket for soon to be neice or nephew....making some beaded ornament covers.

Raether are you tatting yet. I am learning, I'm a little slow but maybe it is coming.

Thanks, but I don't belong to Yahoo & don't think I want to join.

There is a brand new Yahoo Challenge Group, brand new where you can download some cute embroidery files so you can use your old scrappy fabrics. There is very little embroidery then hand stitch the blocks together someone might be interested.

Raether, so are you tatting yet, (a little), I'm very very big on quilting, but I've wanted to learn tatting for years and years too. This is my 3rd time trying to get it down, and I'm having a much more difficult time this time around. Probably cuz I'm getting older but I bought a DVD with a book called Learn to Tat by Janette Baker, and I'm trying different threads, I think the crochet cotting will most likely work well for leaning, but sometimes that is even too stiff to maniluplate the thread one was more stiff today as I tried. Maybe we should start a Tatting blog here when the time is right. This book has a couple of small projects an heart and a tiny butterful as well as lace, and lace doiley, bookmark, and a magnifier -- maybe I need that too. Big grin. I'm finding that I like a different shuttle than I used previously but maybe we can use any once we get it down pat.

What I would like to be able to make is a note card with a basketful of tatted flowers. However, they require fine thread and I think I'll have to do a lot of practicing on large thread first. Need to finish a couple of quilting projects before I get too involved in tatting.

We have a great Bonneville Charters Group here locally, I tried to learn 2 other times, I did pretty good at the class (maybe), then even better as I practiced. Changed different shuttles, bought different threads, I'm getting worse and worse, had to leave it alone for a while. I really want to do this, but I'm so devoted to quilting too. If I could just get somewhere. They gave me a pattern for a cute pumpkin, I tried that, bookmark, tried that, something else tried that, went to too big size of thread, went back to 30 weight thread. Couldn't sleep all night cuz I want to do it so bad. I'm not doing too good with it. Big Grin or Sad Face
