I have a Marti Michell log cabin ruler that starts with 2 1/2" square. The next logs are 2 1/2" wide. I can measure the next units if you want. Or I can give you the EB measurements. The MM would require fewer logs.

I'll have to see what I've go in the way of b&w fabrics. Sorry I haven't been on much. What's going on with Mary Agnes?

Sheila, after a long debilitating respiratory illness, Mary Agnes was diagnosed with lung cancer recently, and this was complicated by a broken leg (somehow as a result of the cancer).  She is currently undergoing treatment.

Thanks for the measurements. I was trying to figure them all out in my head and also searching on Pinterest. This helps a lot. Now to go digging for fabric. I know I have quite a few black & whites.

Thanks everyone for all your help. Barbara, thank you for posting the strip sizes. That's a huge help to all of us.  Later today I will send a message to some of our gals that don't stop in as often to let them know about the quilt.

Oh my, thanks for the info Carol Ann.  I will definitely make a block or 2. Even with a broken hand, I will squeeze a few out.

So...we're making 12.5 inch blocks?

Yes, 12-1/2" unfinished.

Hi Cindy I will check my limited 'stash' to see if I can contribute if not I will mail you cash to help pay for batting and mail.

OK, just confirming (because I can get confused easily).  Center is 2-1/2" square in jewel tone and all strips are 2-1/2" in width.  Is that right?  And we are NOT signing.  And we are each doing one block.

Sorry I can be rather dense.

Carol, you are not dense!  In her initial post, Cindy asked for two blocks each.  Your jewel tone square will be 2-1/2" and all "logs" are 2-1/2" in width; the first log is a 2-1/2" square.  Then you rotate the logs around the center, keeping the dark logs on one side and the light ones on the other.  Barbara's dimensions above are correct.  It helps to look at a photo or diagram of a Log Cabin block.

OK, if I'm not dense, I'm goofy!  I've made several log cabin quilts but it's been a long time.  I've made this block twice, and torn it apart.  I need to add another white log but I'm already at 12-1/2".  Except my center isn't in the center.  I tried to look at Cindy's quilt but it looks as though the first log that is sewn to the center is rectangular, not square.  HELP!
