I am a long time member of "Quilting With Us" (QWU). I used to give virtual workshops here. Like many others, I have ventured out as QWU became more quiet.

We are getting the warning that QWU is at risk of being disabled. I fear this is a sign that QWU will one day be no more.

It has become like family here and the thought of losing the friendships we have developed has giving me a sad heart. Like many dark clouds, there is a silver lining. When I ventured out, I created a quilters social network, much like QWU. I never mentioned it, for it was a conflict of interest. However, in this dark hour, it is time to let others know there is an alternative. It does not have to end here.

I would be honored for QWU members to join "Pattern Pastiche". If needed, we are more than happy to create a group for your new home.

To celebrate National Quilt Month in March, Connecting Threads will offer a Quilt with Us (QWU). This is our third Mystery Quilt - yes we skipped 2015. I'm sorry - we did something else last year to celebrate. The response to the past two Mystery Quilt Quilt Alongs was quite positive with big groups following on Notions and on Quilt with Us (QWU) - and this one promises to be lots of fun as well. We think you will enjoy making this fun three-part pattern, suitable for confident beginner and experienced quilters. The catch is that you won’t know what the quilt looks like until Part 3!

Blog Schedule on Notions and QWU:
3/2 - Mystery Quilt 2016 -Fabric Selection (Wednesday)
3/16 - Mystery Quilt 2016 - Part 1 (Wednesday)
3/23 - Mystery Quilt 2016 - Part 2 (Wednesday)
3/30 - Mystery Quilt 2016 - Part 3 (Wednesday)
4/6 - Mystery Quilt 2016 - Conclusion (Wednesday)

I hope to see many of you return for Mystery Quilt 2016 Quilt Along.

You can join the group now! See ya soon!

My plans to make the 2013 mystery quilt unfortunately didn't happen.  Had everything ready to go but life and other demands on my quilting time got in the way.  Oh well, on to the next project.

Back from my trip to Italy. Had a wonderful time but always good to be back although a bit of a cloud over our return is that my suitcase appears to have been left behind in London (lost?) and since it is 4 days now I am not that hopeful that I will get it back. Of course it has all my favorite summer clothes, shoes, cosmetics and gifts for family.

Fabric that I managed to find was "interesting". All I can say from my minor knowledge is thank goodness I am not a quilter in Spain or Italy. Of course I probably wasn't looking in the right areas but what I saw was extremely expensive (Eur16 per meter seemed average, about $22) although saw some for as much as Eur80 per meter and it wasn't even very nice!

I am suffering withdrawal symptoms from not quilting for so long and can't wait to get started on the next part of the MQ2013!

Jill - Awesome! I'm glad it worked out for you. Enjoy your trip!

Of course you were right Bonny. Made the blocks today and everything went fine. Lots of trimming but I don't mind, hopefully that helped to make them more accurate. I haven't put the stars together yet and I doubt whether I will be able to before we leave on Thursday. But I will be looking forward to starting Part 3 when I get back. Happy Quilting everyone.

Well, Diane in Indiana, I can relate to sidetracked!  Unfortunately, I didn't get sidetracked in the sewing room.  However, I managed to get 2 MQ completely cut out, so they are in neat marked stacks waiting to go under the needle!  I'm hoping to get to them for an hour or so today after I catch up a bit on errands.  Will try to post some pictures later in the week.

I got a little sidetracked this week. I was zooming right along, and suddenly decided I had to finish some other projects. Go figure, the life of a quilter! Well I did finish two other projects and now I'm back to the mystery quilt! I have all the blocks assembled and I laid them out to look at. this quilt is going to be awesome! How is everyone else doing? I haven't seen too many pictures lately.

OK thanks Bonny - I so appreciate you taking the time to get me out of this fix. I don't really see how it will work but I will try it tomorrow on one and I am sure it will become clearer once I see what I end up with. It seemed at first glance that if I put the two 4" squares on top of the 7 1/4" square I ended up with too much seam allowance in the center but maybe that is what I will have to trim.

Comment by Bonny Peters on May 12, 2014 at 6:20pm

Jill - The 7 1/4" is the right size for the block. You may need to trim the edges of your blocks when you get done so that they are 3-1/2" x 6-1/2". The extra 1/8" may or may not be there to trim. It depends on how your seams were sewn.

Hope this helps. The bottom line is that you should be fine and not need to recut any pieces but you may need to trim some.
