Creativity comes in all shapes and sizes, and often overlaps. Many story and book ideas were born from a quilter's thoughts as the needle moves in an out of the fabric of a quilt. Plot lines and dialogues, prompts and dreams - all part of the process that comes so easily to us as we piece together our heritage.

I've created this group with the hope of meeting other writers so that we can all learn from each other, as well as having a place to share our ideas and find new ways to combine our artistic talents in the world of fabrics and words. Because weaving the threads of our subplots into a story is much like creating a work of art in the patterns of our quilts.

It's what we love to do.

Authors/writers of all genres are welcome, whether it be fiction or non-fiction. Pull up a chair, introduce yourself and let's get started!

Writing in our quilts

Has anyone in our group experimented with putting writing into our quilts?  I saw an interesting program from Quilting Arts that showed different techniques.  So far, the only thing I have done as…Continue

I am a long time member of "Quilting With Us" (QWU). I used to give virtual workshops here. Like many others, I have ventured out as QWU became more quiet.

We are getting the warning that QWU is at risk of being disabled. I fear this is a sign that QWU will one day be no more.

It has become like family here and the thought of losing the friendships we have developed has giving me a sad heart. Like many dark clouds, there is a silver lining. When I ventured out, I created a quilters social network, much like QWU. I never mentioned it, for it was a conflict of interest. However, in this dark hour, it is time to let others know there is an alternative. It does not have to end here.

I would be honored for QWU members to join "Pattern Pastiche". If needed, we are more than happy to create a group for your new home.

My Writing Goal for 2016:  Sherlock's Quilt

Yikes, Marilyn, I have been through the dead and/or dying computer thing. Bad news. I have lost all kinds of things because of poor personal habits and changing software. I am sorry to hear of your connection to Alzheimer's--it is the worst! I am working on book 7 in the series. I have another book I'd like to write and am working on the mystery quilt pattern plus a huge applique thing that may take over the world. LOL

I guess I grew up with the "Idle hands are the devil's playground" kind of family.

Barbara...I just took a look at your web site...wow!  I'm impressed!  There has to be something in the sandy soil of western OK and the Texas panhandle that gives us our quirky mindset.  Lol. Your mystery book titles make me want to read them-they draw readers in.  I too, have lived in several areas of the US and another thing we have in common is that both my parents had Alzheimers.  It is, indeed, an insideous disease.  Do you have a current project either writing or quilting?  I have been without a computer (it died a swift, unfortunate death) but expect delivery of a new one any day.  This one finger tablet typing is no way to write a manuscript! :-)

Hi Kathryn! I agree with Marilyn. There really hasn't been much going on here. Maybe that will change now. I write mystery novels and include clues for a mystery quilt in each one. I guess I can't quite decide if I'm a writer who quilts or a quilter who writes. Welcome!

Hi, Kathryn!  Welcome.  There hasn't been much activity on this site for a while.  I live in western Oklahoma and write for children 8-14.  I've been trying to get my first novel published (not an easy task).  I've had some luck with publication in magazines a few years ago but doing research and writing/editing a book is much more work.  What is your genre?  Do you find yourself thinking about writing when you quilt?  I do that all the time!  I should keep a recorder handy so I don't lose my ideas.  Lol

Hello Quilters Who Write!

I've just joined. My name is Kathryn. I live in Iowa City. Have been quilting since about 1995, and writing since... forever. In the middle of lots of projects, and committed to actually completing several of them before the end of 2014! Looking forward to being part of this group.

If anyone is interested in picking up the latest special issue of McCall's Magazine, America Quilts Together Autumn 2012, my hand-quilting group is featured.  Yes, I wrote an article about the group in Fargo, OK in response to McCall's request for submissions.  It's a nice addition to my clips.  The edition features 30 American quilting groups and what they are doing as well as some pretty nice patterns and quilts.  Take a look.  My buttons are popping off my shirt!

Hi Rhonda!  Welcome to the group!  The only message I received is the one you posted below. Not sure what happened there.  Glad you've joined us!!
