Did anyone else know about this? Recently I learned about Fabrics N Quilts, an online fabric shop. They have held an annual Scrap Quilt Challenge and this year's is #5!
Their guidelines call for scrap quilts completed after October 15, 2014 (the end of last year's challenge) and are a minimum of 45" x 60". The fabrics used in the quilt must be "obviously scrappy" (no coordinated/purchased jelly roll or charm pack quilts). You can enter and upload as many scrap quilts as you like to their Flicker page for the Challenge.
Prize winners will be chosen on October 16, 2015 at random, one prize per person. Multiple prizes are being provided by many sponsors: Aurifil, Moda Fabrics, Quilting Treasures Fabrics, Studio E Fabrics, Wilmington Fabrics, Blank Quilting, Creative Grids and Checker Distributors, Quilters Dream Batting, Lavender and Lime Patterns, Martingale Publishing, Joan Ford of "Scrap Therapy" fame, Craftsy and Fabrics N Quilts themselves!!
Further details about the Challenge and the link to the Fabrics N Quilts Scrap Challenge Flicker Group can be found on their website here:
If you already have a project that's ready for the challenge, why not upload it today! For those of you (like me) who have a lot of scrappy WIPs*, PIGs** and HSYs*** laying around, this may be a good excuse to get them finished! It would also be great that when you post your finishes on Flicker, you also post them here so we can see which of our group will be represented. Good luck to all who are able to enter!!
Just in case you are wondering: I have no affiliation with Fabrics N Quilts other than that I'd love to get one of my projects finished and try to win one of the prizes! I was not asked or paid to post this here.
* WIP = Work In Progress
** PIG = Project in a Grocery Sack
*** HSY (pronounced "Hussy") = Haven't Started Yet
JUst about to sew the blocks together for my current scrappy quilt. Maybe i'll give this a go. The Row by Row didn't work out so well. completed the 8 rows, and ended up with a quilt top 36 x 80. What a dumb size so I ripped it apart and will save those rows for other projects I might get inspired to do.
That's a very pretty scrap quilt!
Diane, this one is a real beauty! Make sure you go to the Fabric N Quilts flicker page and upload the photo, it may be a winner in October! Are you keeping this one? If not, it would be a great Quilts of Valor donation!
Sherrie, sounds like you have a plan! Those orphan rows will be a good head start on your next scrap quilt.
VIvan -- thanks for the heads up. I've finished 4 scrappy quilts so far this year and have uploaded them. With any luck, I hope to have 3 or 4 more before the end of the contest. Of course I may be dreaming.
Diane -- love the quilt.
Pam, you've got to win one of the prizes, you make so many beautiful scrap quilts! Keep 'em coming, the more the merrier!
Thank you, Vivian.

I didn't get mine done in time but there's always next year! To that end, Fabrics 'N Quilts has enlisted Kim Lapacek of Persimmon Dreams to host next year's challenge. You can see her post about it all here:
Hope to see you all in next year's challenge!!
