Mystery Quilt 2013 Quilt Along

Information

To celebrate National Quilt Month in March, Connecting Threads will offer a Mystery Quilt 2013 Quilt Along. This is our first Mystery Quilt and promises to be lots of fun for all. We think you will enjoy making this quick and versatile, three-part pattern, suitable for beginning and experienced quilters. The catch is that you won’t know what the quilt looks like until Part 3!

The finished quilt will be a lap quilt or throw, approximately 51-1/2" x 68-1/2".

You will need an additional 3-1/4 yards for a three-pieced back.

Binding - At least 250" of a continuous strip.

This would not be a good first quilt. Having said that, it is an instructional pattern. Each section is accompanied by detailed notes and photos for each step. Some of the piecing is very easy, some requires more precise work... but Ann provides many hints to help you be successful. The quilt is for a confident beginner with experience sewing 1/4" seams.

Comment by MsDesigns on September 22, 2020 at 8:06am: I am a long time member of "Quilting With Us" (QWU). I used to give virtual workshops here. Like many others, I have ventured out as QWU became more quiet.

We are getting the warning that QWU is at risk of being disabled. I fear this is a sign that QWU will one day be no more.

It has become like family here and the thought of losing the friendships we have developed has giving me a sad heart. Like many dark clouds, there is a silver lining. When I ventured out, I created a quilters social network, much like QWU. I never mentioned it, for it was a conflict of interest. However, in this dark hour, it is time to let others know there is an alternative. It does not have to end here.

I would be honored for QWU members to join "Pattern Pastiche". If needed, we are more than happy to create a group for your new home.

This is our third Mystery Quilt - yes we skipped 2015. I'm sorry - we did something else last year to celebrate. The response to the past two Mystery Quilt Quilt Alongs was quite positive with big groups following on Notions and on Quilt with Us (QWU) - and this one promises to be lots of fun as well. We think you will enjoy making this fun three-part pattern, suitable for confident beginner and experienced quilters. The catch is that you won’t know what the quilt looks like until Part 3!

I was guild president 2013-14 for the Kountry Quilters Guild; they had a tradition of "President's Projects" for the entire guild to work on. I chose this mystery quilt as our project, and it was fun. I used fabrics from Connecting Threads, don't remember what line, but one was a red bandana print, 2 were "Itty Bitty Stars" in cream and blue, and the 4th fabric was a royal blue, since I wanted it in patriotic colors as the eventual destination of the quilt was to a wounded warrior at the local V. A. Hospital. I wish to report that the recipient really liked the colors and the pattern. One of the guild members made two different versions and these were also Quilts of Valor. I wish I could post photos of them, but my computer and my digital camera have apparently agreed to disagree, and the most I can do is print the photos. I'll use this pattern again, probably until my copy of the instructions wears out. Thanks for the design.
