I am a long time member of "Quilting With Us" (QWU). I used to give virtual workshops here. Like many others, I have ventured out as QWU became more quiet.

We are getting the warning that QWU is at risk of being disabled. I fear this is a sign that QWU will one day be no more.

It has become like family here and the thought of losing the friendships we have developed has giving me a sad heart. Like many dark clouds, there is a silver lining. When I ventured out, I created a quilters social network, much like QWU. I never mentioned it, for it was a conflict of interest. However, in this dark hour, it is time to let others know there is an alternative. It does not have to end here.

I would be honored for QWU members to join "Pattern Pastiche". If needed, we are more than happy to create a group for your new home.

I remember potty training my son and oh my...someone said put a few Cherrios in the toilet and tell him to aim at them.it worked!!! 

Apparently we are in for another weekend of snow...just got this last one cleaned up!!

So nice to hear from you, Peg.  Sorry to hear that your son required surgery.  I hope that he recovers speedily.  Some things can't be rushed though so it is  fortuitous that you and Hubby are able to be with your son and his family to help out.

When you mentioned that you are potty-training the youngest reminds me that I was not good at it.  My eldest - I made her sit on the potty too long - middle son, I didn't start too soon and it was much better, and the youngest was potty trained by my mother who was baby sitting him while I was in school and she used lollipops as bribes big-time!

My daughter who lives in Clearwater B.C. spent the weekend here in Ottawa with us.  I just love to be with her.

Peg, you've put your quilting on hold for a very worthy cause.  I'm sure that the family is so grateful you and Hubby are there to help.

Happy January everyone.  Phyllis, what a lovely way to start a year, with a sewing retreat!  And Elizabeth, love that cross-stitch quilt.  Everything for me is on a back burner as we're  at our son's helping out after he's had a major surgery.  Their boys are 5 and 3, our DIL has to work, our son is the mostly at-home parent and is now off his feet (well one at least) for several weeks.  So sewing and cross-stitch are at home waiting for me.  In the mean-time, I'm cleaning and potty-training, hubby is cooking and chauffeuring.   And we all play with the boys!  We should be able to be home by the end of February, and get back to normal life.

Elizabeth, no classes. It was strictly a sew whatever you want type of retreat with a show and tell Saturday evening. Great fun and got a lot of sewing done.

Phyllis, I used to go to a quilt retreat at least once a year in the past, but I don't want to leave my Hubby overnight now and also I sometimes need an afternoon nap.  The last few quilt retreats I went to I only took studio because I did not want to leave the class in the afternoon and miss some instruction.

It is nice to hear that you had a good time at the one you went to.  Did you take some classes?

Spent the weekend at quilt retreat. What a wonderful time we had, planning, stitching and lots of giggling. Nice that your family still gets together Elizabeth despite bad weather and distance.

Elizabeth, cute cross stitch.....lot of work in that!!!

Just finished snow blowing the driveway out..did it last night and again this morning and the snow is still coming. Thankfully we didn't get what NF did!!
