Slow Cooker Apple Butter

The original called for

7 cups of natural applesauce

2 cups of apple cider

1 1/2 cups honey

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp ground cloves

1/2 tsp allspice

Put all in slow cooker, cover and cook on low for 14 to 15 hours or until deep brown.  spoon hot into hot jars and process pints 10 mins in boiling water bath.

8 1/2 cups applesauce

1/2 cup apple cider

1 cup honey

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 tsp allspice

Put all in slow cooker and cook uncovered for a few hours, cover and cook for a few more hours stirring every once in a while,, we shut it off while we are asleep or at work and turn it on for several hours for a few nights and then process in the hot jars and boiling water bath.

Last year we used Paula Red apples but we have used ginger gold also and both are good but paula reds are firmer apples so it makes a more chunky applesauce but the ginger gold is sweeter.

Donna, I just cook it down, let it cool then put it through the blender (or food processor) and put it into freezer bags. I do not add anything to it. Just plain old pumpkin. I had never heard of adding sugar to it. Never have had a problem and been doing it this way forever. Makes the best pumpkin pies. My family won't eat any made with store bought canned pumpkin.

Sorry, I've been slow to reply. I ended up not getting on the computer much yesterday or today. Underground railroad was chosen, but Illinois Road was not.

Donna , I think you were getting paper pieced blocks of flowers from the garden in the first SS swap--have you heard where to find the patterns for that as I think that is something I would like to try

Hi Donna, Glad to have you as a friend.  What are you working on.  I'm just trying my hand at  English   paper piecing and putting some of my blocks together.  You know, a little bit of this and a littble bit of that.   Just made a dent in my sewing  room.  at least I can see the floor and my  table.  YAAA   progress.
