Hi GAB - Thanks for the compliment on my patchwork diagonals quilt. I don't know if that pattern has a name. I was initially going to make the Chinese Coins pattern and didn't like the way it was coming together. Since I already had some triangle blocks left over from another quilt, I decided to play around and combine the two. I used the same design in the Scrap Blocks quilt I made, I just turned the blocks in a different direction.
Hello! I saw your post asking about my side by side wall hanging and thought I would drop in and give you the website I saw the technique on - www.dontcallmebetsy.com I probably changed some measurements and added some more sashing I think, but you will get the directions on her site. Thanks! Vic
GAB, your points look pretty good for the first hand applique. Did you also use the chalk on the outside of the thread on the applique fabric? I find, when doing curves, if my left hand holding the applique project is pinching the partially turned seam allowance that I have a harder time getting my curves soothe as I am pressing points in with my finger. With the chalk on the applique fabric I can pull the seam allowance back out to where it should be and hopefully avoid choppy curves.
Good luck with the heart. Inside points and outside points are the hardest to do. I always put an extra stitch or two on the inside point to catch all the threads. Marking just outside the thread with the chalk should help you see where to turn the seam allowance.
