Hi Carla, thanks for the comments about my work- your's si good too!  The clear sheet that I am using is a piece of heavy vinyl that you can buy by the yard at Joann's or Hancock's.  It's meant to be used as a table cover I think.  I buy the heavy wieght so it's nice and stable.  I have cut it into several idfferent sizes to fit different block sizes.  Then I put blue painter's tape around the edges so that when I draw on it with a dry erase marker, I don't accidentally go off the edge and mark on a quilt top.  Then I lay it over the block I want and doodle (sometimes erase and re-doodle) until I have the design I want to quilt.  Then I load my quilt onto my frame and use the doodle as a plan for quilting.  I sit it next to me and just look at it for reference while i am quilting.  I do not stitch through the vinyl or anthing, just use it as a reference.   I do most everything free-hand and use the quilt's piece work as a guideline for keeping everything symetrical.  Does that make sense?  Wish you were here so I could just show you sometime!  I admire you in the fact that you quilt by hand- I haven't the patience, not even an ounce!! ;o)

Carla, I would be happy to be friends.  I have a lot of friends on here but rarely talk to any of them.  I have enjoyed looking at your photos. Thanks!

Hi Carla, I was just admiring your work on the vintage quilts group.  I too love to restore old treasures!  I was reading your blurb above about how you repaired the green star quilt; I have had good luck with ironing a light-weight fusible interfacing to the back side of the quilt top before doing anything else. This stabilized the fabric so that it doesn't separate, and gives it more thickness to work with as you repair it.   Not tring to be some kind of a know-it-all, just passing on a bit of info that works for me.  I just found a dresden plate that is on fairly good condition.  I'll need ot take it apart and add new batting, but the backing may be salvagable.  Love your quilts!

Hi Carla, I was wondering if you do the quilt repair as a business?  I have a top that is in dire need of help and wondered if you could tell me what a  fair price would be for repair work?

HI, Carla--I'm so glad my way of basting may work for you.  I am blessed to have more room now than I have at other points in my life and I can set up a floor frame to baste very large quilts---but it's still pretty disruptive to have a 108 inch long frame set up---I have to take down everything else in my sewing room for the duration.  But I quilt with a Q-snap lap frame.  I like to be able to turn my quilt and quilt towards me.  I just basted two queen size quilts and have them in my basket to start work on--that should keep me busy for quite a while.  I'm so glad you have joined Around the Quilt Frame--I'm looking forward to getting to know you better!
