PAGE 2 - I bought some yarn for a secret pal yarn swap that I do once a month. This month I have a lady from California. For the 1st wk after I banged my head, I was told not to bend my head back or fwd for any length of time and to stay out of the sun, and hydrate. I did as told and behaved. I could only wash my hair in the shower. Sometimes it's so humid here that I wash my hair a 2nd time during the day. They say things happen in 3's. 2 days after my bump, DGD (4) got her left toe nail pulled back from the front door of her house. Then this past Wed. I get a call at 9:15 p.m. that DGD (24) was rushed to the Hsptl for an emergency appendectomy (sp?). DH & I drove to the hsptl in time to hold her had for 5 seconds before they took her to surgery. We waited until she was brought to her room then went home. She came home this a.m. but will not be able to work until July. She waitresses wkends and during the summer. She's a divorced mom of a 3 yr old (Nick w/be 3 on July 4). She lives with her dad, our son and will be a junior in college in the fall. OK, so that #3. Enough for now I hope. Johanna & I had such a good time together and I'm always sorry when she has to go back to LI. She had 1 1/2 yrs to go before retiring. She flys down at least 1-2 times a yr. She wants DH & I to come to LI to visit her soon.
How are you? I know it's still cool-ish weather up where you are. What are you working on now? Hope all is well. Christine
Page 2: With the storms of the last several days, I couldn't log on to the internet. Couldn't check mail, etc. I think I need to call Bell South and complain. This is happening too many times lately.
I picked up a cute pinafore pattern sz A 3-8 at Walmart. With or w/o cap sleeves. I thought I'd make three DGD's (2 are sisters) dresses for the summer. It's hot here until Oct. We've had homecoming at the college in Oct and it's been in the 90's. Reg. school will be ending sometime this wk in our district. I've been asked to make several pairs of leg warmers for my GGD & GD for the fall for dancing school. Pink & Purple. I'm going to look for stretchy sock yarn when my BF comes next month. I'm going to look for ballerina/dancing fabric for pillow cases for both girls for Christmas this yr. I've made about 11 knitted scarves for our church's Christmas bazaar in Nov.
I'm really sorry about what has been going on for your family. If you don't mind, I'll keep you in my prayer book of intentions. I only have one aunt that is still living. She is 87 and lives in central NJ. She has Parkinson's also. She is my mother's youngest sister. All my other aunts & uncles are gone. If I outlive her, I will be the oldest on both sides of my parents families. I am the oldest cousin. Geez, I don't want that distinction, it makes me feel ancient! When Mother's Day rolls around, I avoid the card aisle. It's something about the MD cards that gets to me. Do you think if I sent one to the cemetery that my parents are buried that, that would be absurd? Maybe I'm loosing it, maybe I'm getting too old. But sometimes it seems like a good idea to me. LOL
Hi Judy. After 3 wks w/no computer, I'm back on again. Well, the weather was horrible during the AQS show, Since everything had to be moved from lowertown in Paducah where it's usually held, we opt not to go this year. Everyone is coping with flooding along the Ohio & Mississippi Rvs. the Corp of Engineers had to blow up 3 levees along the MS Rv to eleviate some flooding. The people along the river weren 't happy neither are the farmers - who for this spring have lost their land to flooding and will be unable to plant any crops. All that soil washed away. I just got an email from my BF on Long Island, NY, that she will be flying down to visit us the second wk of June! Yeah! That means, fabric shop hops & yarn shops in a 50-75 mile radius for the 2 of us! YES! She & her DBF come for 9 days, 5-6 of them are the 2 of us running/driving from shop to shop. DH & DBF go fishing. Neither husband are into golfing, so DH gets the boat out and off they go in the a.m. We follow by backing out my van, with the back seat down, for packages we store in the back. LOL.
DD working (nurse) today, DGD's both working (nurses also), DGS & DSIL off to see their side of the family for Mother's day. I'm catching up on chores & emails. Just wanted to keep in touch with you! Happy Mother's Day to you and your family.
I've not had my home computer for a week. Currently I've been using my daughter's, she lives across the road from us. I should have my own computer back by Friday.
How are things up your way?
My brother was in the hospital from Wed of last week till Tues of this wk. He had a pacemaker installed. He's home now and doing well. So, we postponed Easter plans and visited with him instead. Did you do an Easter Egg Hunt? Take care!
Hi Judy! The AQS folks were scrambling on Monday & Tuesday to move things from the riverfront because Paducah had to raise the floodgates. Paducah is on the waterfront of the Ohio River, which meets the Mississippi & Tennessee rivers. What a mess. When my husband was in the Army Nat'l Guard, they were called out for the 1997 flood in Paducah. He was there for 3 wks. He could come home at night because we only live about 45 min away, others had to spend the night at the Armory in Paducah. My friend Kathy & I were going to go on Wed. with our DH's but the tornado warning sirens were going off all day long. We decided to try another day. I'm babysitting today, but we may go on Fri or Sat. I hate missing it because I've been saving $$$ for it and I've put off getting any patterns or fabric on line or locally. I love going to just see the vendors and what's new in the crafts/sewing/fabric/patterns/books, etc. I've got several pieces of Jim Shore's quilting angels that I had him sign during several shows. Our town, Murray got hit really bad two days in a row. Our newspaper, The Murray Ledger and Times, is on line you can see the pictures of all the destruction we had locally. This, unfortunately, is our spring. Our winters are mild. This too shall pass.
The weather radio we have at home kept going off almost 4-6 times an hour, the TV weather would interupt the programing. I finally gave up, took up my knitting or a book and read. My DH has a police scanner so he was monitoring the weather also. He was in law enforcement for 15 yrs here in our County. After the ice storm we had 3 yrs ago, we're prepared. When we moved here from Long Island, We brought our hurricane box. It's a huge old cooler that we keep food, batteries, tarps, hammers, staple gun, small bottle gas (grill), blankets, water, etc. During the ice storm we were without elec for 9 days. My son in the next county had no power for 3 1/2 wks.
Hi Judy. It rained so hard around 10 a.m. DGD and I were looking out the front window and couldn't see the van and truck in the driveway. Honest! Coming from LI/NY and living thru hurricanes, this downpour was unreal! DGD who is 4 said, were did your van go? I'm not shopping for any fabrics or accessories for now. I'm holding off until the AQS in Paducah KY comes. It's only 3 wks away. I love looking at all the quilts, but there is nothing like the wonderful vendors. So many things I want to try! Have you ever been to the Paducah KY quilt show? I've been going since 1991. I think it's wonderful. I've been to the AQS show when they held it in Nashville, TN but they have moved it to Knoxville TN. Paducah is only a 40 minute ride from my house. I'm so looking fwd to it this year!
