About Me
I have spent forty years as an educator in Madera, CA. The first 16 years were as a teacher. The next four years were spent working as a teacher on special assignment assisting schools with their English learner students. The last twenty years have been spent in administration. These past two years I was assigned to the job of Associate Superintendent of Educational Services. The work has been enjoyable, challenging and amazing all at the same time. It will be difficult to leave a job where there are constant decisions being made and continued interactions with staff including school administrators and teachers. The most difficult piece to give up is the opportunity to visit classrooms and visit with students.

The changes I will experience in the next few months will include the transitions I will have to make from being in charge to giving over my work to the next Associate Superintendent. It is always difficult to make transitions in the work environment. It will be a difficult time for me during the next few months. This web site will become my place to visit to assist with my transition from work to retirement. I certainly plan to make a transition which allows me to find new friends to talk with and new skills to learn. I plan on interacting more on this website with all the wonderful quilters I have met on this web site. Happy sewing and quilting to all.

None at this time.

I am finally retired and trying to catch up with all the things I have not had time to do including quilting, cleaning out closets and garage (Ugh!) and just beginning to relax and enjoy my next phase of life. I plan on visiting this website more often and add photos to my website as well. I just posted my photos and discovered how easy it is to do. It has inspired me to continue finishing my projejcts so that I can update photos as well. It is still hot here in California (100+ degrees) and so it is nice to stay in and visit the web. More soon. Thanksgiving Holiday

Posted on November 29, 2010 at 9:36pm 9 Comments

I greatly enjoyed the holidays. We had 23 for Thanksgiving with 10 desserts. My nieces brought their grat creations along with pies made by me, my sisters, and brothers. It takes two days to prepare the meal and get the house ready. However, it is worth it. I always enjoy having family in my home. I will attempt to add some pictures to share the festivities with you. Below are pictures of the dessert buffet. Believe it or not, most of the pies and cupcakes were gone by the end of the… Continue

Ct Projects

I recently completed a few projects that I purchased this summer from Connecting Threads. Two kits plus extra fabric allowed me to complete three runners. I am attaching the photos of the runners. They turned out well and work with the end of summer colors here in California. Our fall weather is hot but the country side is golden as the colors in the fabric.…

End of Summer

Posted on September 9, 2010 at 2:47pm 4 Comments

It is September and the fall season is about to begin. September 1st, Dove Hunting Season, brings me memories of my grandmother, who's birthday was on that day as well. The shorter days of sunlight also bring cool evening breezes and a hint of cooler weather to come. County fairs and Friday night football are other great September events. The season change has energized me to complete three projects using the Golden Summer fabrics. These colors reflect the early fall season here in California.… Continue

Kathleen, thank you for your very kind and encouraging words on my art quilt pieces. It is a new thing for me, having started less than 2 years ago on this style, but I am really enjoying it and am learning so much.
I hope you enjoy your retirement and are finding things to do to fill the void of a job that it sounds like you greatly loved.

Thank you, Kathleen--I'm in my recliner, with a book, my netbook, hand quilting and piecing, and my heating pad all within reach. I may be here a while. :)

Hi Kathleen - I loved the table runners you posted to your blog. For some reason it wouldn't let me comment on the blog but said my comment was waiting approval.

Hi stole Kathleen, Thanks for your comment on my blog. I actually stole that idea from my friend. I saw it on her page and thought "What a great idea" . It really does help to see it written down. Sometimes you feel like you aren't gettin anywhere. I hope you have a great night.

You asked about my camera, it is a Canon Powershot G7 - digital. Some day I'd love a digital SLR, but this camera is very good and I am pleased with what I've been able to do with it.

The mountain is Mt. Hood in Oregon, taken from the Hood River area. I took it last weekend.

I found the flowered tablerunner in the Art to Heart Garden Song Book. The book shows it with pink fabrics and I think I like that better but I had that cute border fabric in my stash so I went with the colors in that. It doesn't exactly match my room but that's OK - it still makes me smile and that's what's important. Thanks for your nice comment!

Hi Kathleen, Thank you for your nice comments on my sewing. Yes we got a big snow storm on Wed. We only got about six inches but up in Northern Maine they got 10-15 inches. But it turned to rain here and then froze so our door yard is very icy. I think I'm a mis-placed Southener. lol I hate the cold. I played out in it all the while I was a kid but I guess I've gotten to be a whimp in my old age. lol I am still getting ready for Christmas. Wrapped some gifts today to take to my bingo group Christmas party tomorrow night. The ladies bible study that I go to is having a Christmas luncheon on tues. and Sat. the guild I belong to is having our Christmas party. So far I been to one party with three more to go to. I'm having my oldest son and family in for Christmas night dinner. I will ask my sister and her son to come also. She has cancer and is scheduled to have surgery early January. It's in her bowels and on her bladder. I'm praying for a miracle. Have a blessed Christmas.
