About Me
I saw a book about quilts in a bookshop and it was love at first sight. I bought it and took it home and ... unfortunately there were only pictures, with no instructions at all. I started collecting books and practically taught myself patchwork. I now have a large collection of books, quilts, ufo's ... a sewing room of my own and a nice stash. However, living outside the US its hard to keep up with technics and materials. Please ... start sending fabric abroad!!

On the eve of St. John's Day

Posted on June 23, 2009 at 8:46am 9 Comments

Tonight we celebrate the eve of St. John’s Day all over the country. It is the shortest night of the year, in terms of hours of darkness, and the celebrations intend to “erase” the night and extend the “day” until the sun rises again, so huge fires are lit everywhere at dusk, and kept burning all night. The fires are also used to burn old stuff, seeking some type of purification and the opportunity to start anew with nothing old. Students, just off school, will burn their useless workbooks and… Continue

Hi everyone! I please need your help. My nephew Ruben, turning 7, has asked for a tractor quilt for his birthday. OMG why did I have to ask him what he wanted?? Can any of you recommend or share a pattern with tractors of some type?? I've done stars and geese before, 4 and 9 patches ... but tractors!! No idea LOL. Thanks.

The quilt for my Mother in law

Posted on May 7, 2009 at 11:02am 5 Comments

We lost my Father in law last year, to an extended cancer, and my Mother in law is having a very hard time. So I thought about this quilt with hands from all the family to bring her comfort and cheer her up. Caring and helping hands from all the family, to let her know she was not alone and that we would always stand by her side. My sisters in law loved the idea and secretly collected templates from their hands. My three sisters in law live in the same town as my mother in law, an almost three… Continue

I'm sure you have all heard about the earthquake in Italy some days ago. Did you hear the story about a 90 year old lady the firefighters rescued from her house three days later? I found it sweet and would like to share it with you in case you haven't heard it. In any case, I sorrow and pray for the victims and hope those who survived can quickly recover from all their losses.

This 90 year old lady lived by herself in an apartment. No telephone, no tv set, no radio. Every day she… Continue

Why I love quilting

Posted on April 16, 2009 at 1:01am 17 Comments

A very kind friend suggested I share this with all of you ... so here it is.

Apart from the more material aspects of patchwork, such as collecting a stash or producing beautiful quilts, I now know there is another part I love about all this … and its the wonderful fraternity and generosity among quilters. Of course, my quilts are far from perfect, but every time I’ve shown one, comments have always been sooooo kind. A patchwork colleague will always praise your work. There will… Continue

Hi Carmen, I am so sorry to hear about your mother. It is always so difficult, no matter how old you are. I also could not see my photos on my page until I clicked on the view all button at the bottom of the blank photo square. I have also posted it in the main Dear Jane Plus page. I actually did not like it -- until it was finished and on a bed. Now, luckily after all that work, I love it. I haven't done much else...a few charity small quilts and Christmas gifts for children. But I do plan to get going on another project as soon as I can clean up my work space, which is also my small guest bedroom. Good luck with your move and keep quilting! Anne

Hi Carmen,

I am not certain you will remember me but I wanted to let you know that, at last, I finished my Dear Jane. I have often wondered if you went back to yours and how it is going. I found it very difficult to work on mine so many times, but am so glad that I completed it. I put it away often, which is why it took me from April 2009 until this summer to get it done. I have posted a photo on my page if you would like to see it!

I am also 48 years old.  I live in Newton, Kansas.  I have 2 grown daughters that go to college in Nebraska.  They both want to be teachers.  The eldest is very gifted in dance and art and the younger one is a sweet girl that wants to teach Home Economics.  I was divorced in 2004 but remarried in 2005 to a wonderful man.  We are so happy.  We are currently in the process of trying to get his Nephew here with us for adoption.  His daddy, my husband's brother was murdered before he was born.  The family wants us to bring him here to give him a better life and more opportunities.

Be strong through the divorce dear....better times are coming to you!  Your friends will help you!!!  It's a big compliment you pay me about my blocks!  I really love fabrics and playing with them in each block pattern.  Your 4 kids must keepy you very busy!  $$$ is a difficult thing no matter where we are but still we find a little for fabric right!  What kind of fabrics do you like most?  I would love to visit you, but things are really crazy in our lives right now.  We went to submit documents a few weeks ago at the US Embassy for our nephew but had an issue to resolve and will need to go back again soon.

My husband has a really good job with Monsanto....an agriculture company so we are not struggling....Thanks God!  I have been working with him too.  It's harvest time right now so we are really busy.  His family is in Pakistan so we go there every year for our vacation time.  They are a wonderful family....so sweet and gentle and loving!

You are so sweet!  Of course you are always welcome to come and share some time with me!  I would really love it!!!    I was looking at your lovely quilt photos too....marvelous!  I really admire the applique as I have not learned that technique yet!  Where in Spain are you?  Do you ever come to USA?  I have been to Spain but only through the airport lol
