About Me
I live in the Idaho wilderness area with my DH of 30 years. We have 2 DS's 2 wonderful DDIL's 2 DGD's 4DGS's.We both work for a mine. Our schedule is 7 days on & 7 days off so I get lots of time to quilt.. Have been quilting for 20 years but only avidly for the past 8 yrs. I have always hand quilted till I started having problems with my hands. Decided to try FMQ and have totally fallen in love with it. In a few yrs when we retire we will move to our 41 wooded acres in Wyoming. 41 acres will keep DH very busy while I quilt :0) I am so lucky to have such a DH who loves my quilting. Lori

Practicing fillers on DHM

Posted on May 11, 2013 at 12:27pm 19 Comments

I just took a class from Cindy Needham. Awesome instructor. This is what I came up with when I divided and designed a blank piece of fabric. I love how she teaches sunshine and shadows. It was fun using different fillers. Once UFO.s are done I will design a whole cloth using her methods.…

Home For a Few Days!!!

Thanks everyone for your prayers.. We are home again but on 24 hour notice if fire flares up again. We are on the Halstead fire. Other than pets we did not bring much back with us incase we leave again. I had to laugh the day we were packing to leave. DH collects old guns. As I was packing my quilts he pipes up and says "Hey those would be perfect to wrap my guns in." Lets just say after I gave him my answer, he won't ever ask that question again. What was he thinking?

Going to go to…

Life is so exciting, I think

Been spending the day packing what I think can not be replaced. The fire is headed our way. I have been using my stash to wrap around my family antiques. The forest fire is headed our way and there is no stopping her. One thing I want all of you to remember, please take pictures of everything in your home. Open drawers and doors to show what you have. We have an awesome insurance company and they said as you leave your home make sure you have a picture of everything you have left behind.…

I have several classes lined up to start teaching FMQ on domestic machines. I will do an intro to basting and getting the quilt ready and how to set up the sewing machine. I will than go on with fills and than free hand feathers. I want to end the class teaching how to make perfect binding. It is a total of 16 hours. When you take a class what things do you want out of the class I would be so interested to hear your ideas.  Thanks Lori

Lori, so nice to hear from you.  Congratulations on your pending retirement.  I retired in 2007 and have enjoyed every minute of it.  I'm still taking in sewing for other people. This Winter has been a rough one and I have been home a lot, so it's been nice having people coming and going.  I'm looking forward to hearing about all the fun things you will be doing once you retire.

So great to hear from you, Lori!  I don't post as often, but check in pretty frequently.  Are you moved in to your new place?  Shoni's wedding is the 23rd of June and she's so excited.  She is keeping it very small and simple, which we appreciate.  Tell will be a junior in college this fall.  He's working on a ranch near Miles City, MT this summer.  It is earning him 6 hours of internship credits toward his degree in range livestock management.  As the sole summer hired hand, he misses being part of a cowboy crew, but says this is definitely the nicest bunkhouse he's ever lived in.

I need to get the DWR basted. We've been busy with calving and ranch work this time of year that I haven't gotten much quilting done.  I did meet a deadline for a graduation quilt for a niece, but I haven't gotten pictures posted yet.  Shoni's given me a December extension on the DWR quilt.  :)  DH has been having shoulder trouble and learned this morning that it may  not be a shoulder problem as much of a ruptured disc in his neck.  Not sure what that means for down the road.

Hope things are going well with you and yours.   Thanks for the note.

Lori, thank you for the comment on my quilt "Color Explosion."  I also really appreciate your comment about my machine quilting.  I still feel like I am learning, but then I guess when I stop learning I will be no more.

Hi Lori!  Tell's hand is improving.  He thought he'd get the stitches out maybe on Saturday.  He thinks it is looking better.  So far no one has gotten sick from his cooking. :)
