About Me
I have been sewing on and off for the last 10 years. I never liked it as a kid but as an adult I love it. I have a thing for sewing machines and love them. I have a collection of both old and really new ones. I quilt, sew, knit, bead, make photo cards and love to work with my hands. I live in a one bedroom apartment in Manhattan with my partner of 30 years and our three wonderful pugs so space is an issue. Maybe one day I will have a sewing room. :-) I love to talk to people who sew and quilt and knit, etc.....meeting people is an added plus for me. Any New Yorker's here? Please drop me a comment. Thanks-

With this dreadfully warm beastly hot savage summer my hope is that you and sweetie plus 3 are creating joyfully in a cool space with lots of cold ice tea and perhaps some serious beachtime on the weekend.

I have a hand sewing question if anyone has any suggestions-

I want to place a patch under the knee on my jeans- just for the look. :-) Pick a funky fabric-
I of course have to hand sew this-
I thought I would turn the edge down on the machine and then hand sew it on the jeans-
my question is which sewing stitch shall I use to hand sew it and could i use a very thin yarn to make it more decorative?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

I don't really have any favorites. I usually see a quilt or pattern and, if it looks like something I might like to make, I'll check it closer to see if I feel that it's do-able. Some are my own designs ( the cala lily quilt is one).
I don't think I've heard of or seen Kiddie Kwik Sew books... I do have a couple of Kids Quilts magazines that I really like - tried to subscribe but subscriptions weren't available when I checked. I'm not a big fan of Thimbleberries - can't think of any other particular ones I favor or dislike.

Hi again.... you asked whether 'it' was a pattern or my own design, but I don't know if you're talking about the Elmo shirt or the placemats? So I'll answer both lol The placemats are a printed panel and as for the Elmo shirt, I have a Sesame Street Quilt book with patterns for almost all of the characters, I just enlarged Elmo's features about 175%. If you look through my earlier pics, there's a pic of the Elmo quilt I made for our then almost 3 yr gson. Nothing but Elmos on scrap squares and with neon orange flannel backing.

Hi Ronniejoy... I'm glad you like my Elmo shirt... it was machine appliqued; the only hand sewing I do is the last step in sewing on binding. I enjoy hand sewing, but usually I want it done and want it done NOW - hand sewing takes too long lol (and I'm not very good at hand applique).

Hi ronniejoy, nope didn't make it out to the stores...yet.
Took in an exhibit yesterday on the Moon instead and attended a memorial service today...perhaps make it to see 'what's left' this week, haha! Oh well, I'm not worried...we've been celebrating Christ*mas in a more simple, reflective way for years now and will do the same...helps loads in cutting down the 'frenzied' feeling of the season...take care!

Hi ronniejoy!
I use a simple basic Bernina and a 'throwback' Singer, lol.
Like to hand stitch for a change too.
Hope you're having a nice weekend...are you pounding the pavement perusing stores? :D
