New quilts added

I just added all of my latest stuff to My Photos.  Each new item is a sample I made for the quilting class I teach each week.  I had great fun making the pieces and then even more fun teaching all of my students how to make them.  The project I am working on right now is a Block of The Month Quilt from the Quilter's Almanac book by Eleanor Burn's.  Each of the completed blocks have turned out well, but I… Continue

Teacher Workday #1

Here's today's message, and I think it's what BJ was saying here yesterday:

Friend to Friend... I'm so glad we have each other!

This is especially true when you're having one of those days where you're not quite sure where things are heading.

Like tonight.  Sophie (the dog) is acting weird, and I think it's because the weather is…

addendum to 'end of January

The weather forecast is dreadful for the next two days or so. More than half the country is experiencing this huge winter storm. We here in the North east await mother natures winter fury (again). So in expectation of this storm, I've cut out a few blocks to occupy my hands and time as she blows through with ice, sleet and snow predictions. We could get up to a foot of snow. Looks like I'm going to be busy.

Welcome February.

Quilt Testers Needed for Roseville Quilters Block of The Month!

If the forecast holds out, we could be buried in ice within the next 48 hours. Could it be true? I have to say, I am more enthusiastic about snow than ice. People drive waaayyyy too fast on ice thinking they can stop-which they can't. I have never quite understood why crashing into other cars is a better outcome than simply slowing down.

So, I have pre-school this afternoon. I fully expect there to be mayhem, which is usually par for the course before a big storm. Something goes… Continue

Quilting is good exercise.

For those of us who are trying to get in shape, I wanted to share a cartoon with you that appears as a weekly feature on the Pickledish (Kansas City Star) website.

Check it out, and smile as you "sit" and sew.

Las Crusces, New Mexico

I needed to go somewhere warm, so I went to see my sister last week .  Her living room window faces the Organ Mountains.  I've always would go there during the spring or summer, it was different seeing the terrrain in the winter months.  It felt so good being in the sun.  A jacket would be needed in the morning, but by 10:30 the jacket would need to come off.  We had stayed at the Drury Inn and Suites.  This was the first time I stayed there and I would recommend going there.  I hated to leave… Continue

Monday in SPI

Today is going to be a great day. We are going on a boat trip to Brownsville shipping channel with my sister and a few of their friends from down here.  Yesterday we took a tour of the island and went to Walmart in Port Isabela for some things we forgot to bring.  We did buy a few microwave dinners so we didn't have to eat out all the time.  We spent about an hour sitting on the beach and watching the waves come in.  It was so great with no worries.  I did hear from my daughter last night on…

Playing Catch

Well, "catch-up" that is!  The consensus is to share the daily messages from when they started, on my birthday!  So here they are:

6th: "You can't wrap love in a box, but you can wrap a person in a hug."  -- Very appropriate for a birthday, don't you…

South Padre Island

After 2 days of non stop driving we have made it to South Padre Island.  it was dark when we got here, but looking forward to tomorrow exploring the place.  We stopped by my sister place and I can say the view is great, but overall not worth the price they are paying for it.  We saw a lot of palm trees and catus on the way down.  I would not have thought that for Texas.  Well I am tired so I am going to hit the hay.  Talk to you all soon

Hand Piecing

I have a question for those of you who hand piece. Where is an ideal place to end an old thread and begin a new thread in the middle of a row? I have never taken any hand piecing classes and what I know comes from books. I am unable to find any definitive info on this subject, could you help. Any info would be helpful. Thanks. The end of January - last weekend

It's been a productive month! I finished two holiday pillow cases to cover a couple of extra pillows for the season. I found a panel or two (from my stash) and added ruffles and a pillow backing to slip the pillow form into the cover. Whala...the old pillow transformed for the holidays. I also prepared a few more pillow tops for next year's projects..just add a ruffle and backing. (gifts for friends, perhaps)

I had a really cute pattern for a kitchen, sewing,and toothfairy doll.…

Sharing Good Wishes and Four-Leaf Clovers

As some of you might know, I turned 50 years old a few weeks ago.  It's actually neither here nor there for me -- I think age is an attitude, not a number!  But my younger daughter thinks it's cool that I'm now "half way to 100" and she wanted me to have a special present this year.

She had a jar sent to me,…

High Fiber--High on Sundance, Quilting and Knitting!

What a busy week! My Vintage Stitchers group met right in the middle of Sundance!

More on quilting later. It has been a busy week at Sundance. Here are some fellow volunteers taking a quick break between films.

Jadip

Just another day in paradise! Sun is shining and it'll be in the 70's...Going shopping and then steaming crabs for a feed tonight with friends and family! The trip down was uneventful...which is a good thing. Sewing is not on the agenda until next week. It is all about getting my tan back and catching up with family. Enjoy the weekend...
