Winter is on the way

It's January 10th and we have been having record breaking temperatures - has been in the upper 40's and lower 50's in North Dakota in January - every day has been a gift. We have a weather advisory posted for tonight and tomorrow so looks like our lucky streak is coming to an end. Don't think I will get lucky enough for it to be bad enough for a snow day. I could use it to finish up a customer quilt.... oh well.

What's Happening In Roseville These Days You Ask?

Tuesday, Jan 10th

Good morning! Boy, what a beautiful day outside today! The sun is shining and although a bit nippy, it promises to be a great day in Indianapolis!

It was a good thing I blogged on Sunday night and didn't leave it till Monday morning. I woke up absolutely exhausted and not feeling well. Did you ever go for a couple of weeks kind of tired and run down feeling like you were "coming down with something" and then it never hit? That's kind of how I have been. I feel a…

It's my friday!

Obviously I don't have the typical 9 to 5, Monday thru Friday job but it does have its advantages. Tomorrow morning while everyone gets up and fights the morning rush hour to work, I will be sleeping in!  So after getting up at 5 or 6 am (yes that would be sleeping in for me. Normal time to get up for work is 3:30am), I will resume working on my Mariner Compass quilt.  I nearly had a set of the blocks finished and when I sat there and looked at them I wasn't happy with the way they turned…

Christmas quilt for my sister

This is my first blog post here on QWU. I've been reading all your posts for a while now and I'm constantly in awe of all the creativity and artistry shown here.  I made this quilt for my sister and her husband for Christmas. The pattern is Leap Frog by Me and My Sister Designs. My sister collects frogs so it seemed an appropriate choice. I named it "...Frogs sat on a speckled log..." since it reminded me of a counting song I learned as a child.( 10 little speckled frogs sat on a speckled…

comfort quilt finished

Here is the finished comfort quilt made for a friend going through breast cancer treatments.  Thanks to help from many on here, this was done in 9" blocks in a puzzle set.  It started with 3 pre-printed panels of Psalms (Comfort of Psalms I, II, and III from Block Party Studios purchased several years ago).  The rest of the pieces were scraps from other projects and most of them have a special meaning to me.  I wrote up a little explanation to stick in with the quilt.  To me, the lavender…

Let Go, Let God and I have my puppy!

This adoption process has had me stressed out. I had an email Saturday saying I'd have an answer today and had a new picture of the puppy. So I thought if she was bringing him to Arizona I'd better make sure I could get him back home to Ohio on the train since that was the only way I can travel. Oh horrors! Amtrak does not take pets, only service animals. What to do? I simply cannot fly due to risk of blood clots and my legs swelling. When I talked to the foster…

High Fiber—FOs and New Starts

In spite of a bad cold, I finished Zachary's BSJ.

DGD1 (also suffering from a cold) finished her first hat:

New Project

My New project is...............handwork!!!!!

Yikes, that means I have to thread a needle...right?

This is coming from the quilter who pawns off all her binding jobs to friends and family.  Who has become pretty effecient at machine applique to avoid the hand thing.

Well, I did it....Althought I did complete this block Saturday…

Planning

So my husband is still away doing Military duty, and I am trying to fill my days doing things. I get bored easily , last time I was really bored, I dyed my hair. LOL. That didn't turn out right, it was suppose to be a chestnut brown (that is close to my natural hair color), but it turned out to be more red than brown. I keep forgetting that I have red undertones and they tend to really show when I try…

"We make plans. God laughs."

The computer was down for a few days. It's one thing when it's my own computer and I have control over it's demise. (Or at least I think I do.) However, I'm staying with friends for the winter and I don't have control when the computer goes down. Ok, it's about my not having control over something. I'm learning in the last 4 years that I can't have control over every little detail in my life. I've had to let go and let God handle it. I picked up a sign last weekend…

My goal

I have a goal. I want to get a cat themed quilt done in time for next January. I know some of you girls think that is a laugh because you are so speedy and can get things done so quickly but I am a newbie and have not yet started sewing on my quilt. It is really only a wall hanging but it seems so big to me. There will be a quilt show at the cat museum in Alliance next year at this time and that is when I want to have it done. Someday I will look back on this and laugh but right now it seems…

Next week

Well next week I am taking two different quilting classes. One is called Breakfast Club and the other one is Mystery Quilting for Beginner Quilter.  I can't wait, not quite sure what to expect I guess I will find that out on the first day. I know for the Mystery Quilt one they take you around to help you choose the fabric for the quilt. That could be dangerous for me, since I love fabric. I am already…

Am I the only one??

I've been taking inventory of all the gifts given and received this past holiday. I guess, I'm a little disappointed in some of the gifts. I know that we all make things for others because we enjoy the process, but I don't seem to get it back in return. I have friends who do different crafts like knitting, needlework, etc...but, they have never gifted me with their work! Do you find this? I would at least like a gift card to a local quilt shop...not a bottle of booze(well actually...that's…

Hey, Happy New Year Everyone!

I have been wanting to finally find some time to say Happy New Year to all of you--but have been crazy with all of my company, quilting, baking business and writing my now 4 books!

I know it probably seems like I have really slowed down with the Roseville novels, but no. Just hang in there with me a little longer till I get the college boy back to school in a couple of days. Then Mancave and I will have our house to ourselves again-the first time in gee, about 3 weeks!

Also,…

Embellishing a Quilt

Hi Ladies & Gents,

I am making a quilt that I want to add beads, sequines and more than likely use some embrodery thread to enhance the main part of my quilt. This is all new to me and I have NO idea what I'm doing or how to do it. I don't know if I add all that once the quilt is sandwiched and quilted or do I do it all before I quilt the top. Any and I mean any help would be much appreciated!! I do not want it like a crazy quilt. I just want to add to the finished…

New Year off to a Good Start

I know I don't post often these days, but I wanted to be sure to wish all of you a Happy New Year!  I hope that everyone is doing well and that 2012 is a fantastic year for all of you!

A couple of weeks ago I posted that our 3rd granddaughter (grandchild #8) was born and we were waiting for GD #4 to make her appearance any day.  Adeline Katherine was born on Monday, January 2nd!  All is well and she's just as beautiful as her little cousins!  I guess she wanted a birthday year to…

What to do with all of those Layer-Cakes given at Christmas

Hello Friends!

I imagine many of you got fabric for Christmas...but may not have a simple, fast pattern in mind to use it.  I posted a free pattern on my other blog (http://shannonsquiltingservices.blogspot.com)  "Christmas Layer Cake Quilt"  that can be used to sew together those fun 10 inch layer-cake squares.  Happy Quilting!
