My Favorite Christmas Present

I have to tell you about one of my Christmas presents.  One of the kids I babysat for since he was 3 weeks old, asked me what I wanted for Christmas.  He's a senior in high school and works a lot so I didn't want him to spend much on me.  I told him to go to Harbor Freight and get me a pack of replacement blades for my rotary cutter.  When I opened it, he had bought me 6 packages with 2 blades in each.  With 12 new blades, I'll never have to buy them again!  Everyone said they would fit the…

Quilting Machines

Good Morning All!!!   I am researching quilting machines.  I looked at the Bernina 830 yesterday.  I truly loved everything about it (except the price..lol).  It sews, embroiders and quilts.  It can be set up on a quilt stand for free motion or is adaptable to computerized quilting.  I have a Bernina 930 electronic machine and have had it for at least 25 years.  I have had absolutely no problems whatsoever from this machine, so I guess that is why I am kinda leaning towards the…

Thank you all

Wow, what a great bunch of girls! I got such a response I was overwelmed. I look forward to meeting those of you who offered and will wait to hear from you. Waynesburg is about 30 minutes from Omish country so it is pretty close. I can't wait to go shopping and taking advantage of all the invitation I have received. Thanks and thanks again. Hope to see you all real soon, or as soon as the weather gets better. Keep in touch. I'll be back real soon!

One more Feathered Star

Finished one more Feathered Star. Now I have four Feathered Star tops done. And i fixed the unevenness of the setting blocks. The extra pinning at the final edges was most helpful. :-) Thanks for all your advice.

once upon a time

Once upon a time there were a pair of super warm socks that felt like fuzzy washcloths…but they didn’t want to be socks…hidden in shoes…closed in drawers…lost in the washer…they wanted to BE somebody… so they were cut up…it didn’t even hurt…to become a sock…

Be Thankful for Friends

Since my car accident 4 years ago, I have survived because of my friends here in Arizona. Moving back home to Ohio and becoming a shut-in, I discovered that my old friends were no longer...I don't know how to put it into words. They were happy to hear from me, come on over, oh you can't drive, gee that's too bad. I've never heard from them again. That has been hurtful and I've had to try to move on to make new friends. Not easy when you are a shut-in. They were really good friends…

New Free-Motion Quilting

I've learned some new free-motion quilting for my mid-arm machine.   Perhaps someone would like to try these ideas themselves.  More can be viewed at http://shannonsquiltingservices.blogspot.com "Archive of Free-Motion Quilting" Page.

Sashiko & Butterflies

To start the New Year, I want to share an old project that finally got finished and hung on the wall at the end of 2011.  The pattern is by Sylvia Pippen.  The project is hand appliqued, hand embroidered and hand quilted.  The butterfly wings are fussy-cut from bookbinder fabrics.  I learned a lot!…

Happy New Year

Happy New Year to my QWU family!  By now, you all have your resolutions firmly in place, right?  For sure going to clear out the UFOs, right?  Oh and maybe do more charity work, right?  Oh, and let's not forget the special quilt for that someone special, right.  Oh, and the numerous other "last minute" projects that pop up!  Are you laughing with me now or groaning?  I challenge you to create to your hearts content, donate to your favorite charity and attend as many retreats as…

Need help

I'm taking a quick break from my daughter's DWR to make a breast cancer comfort quilt for a church friend to take to her treatments.  I have the Comfort of Psalms scripture panels to work with and plenty of scraps - pink and otherwise.  Some of the quotes are squares and some are rectangles.  It would help if they were all the same, but they are varying sizes.  That trips me up a little bit because I'm not a designer.  Any thoughts for quick & easy patterns to set these in?  I want to…

High Fiber—Happy Holidays, Part Two

I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday! I did! A few of us also had a birthday. This was my birthday haul:

Not in the photo are a gift card from Barnes and Noble, a bud vase that looks like knitting and a share in a  Knitters Gift Basket from Heifer International. It includes a llama, an alpaca, a sheep and an angora rabbit. What a great gift! There is…
