I am the president of my local quilt guild this year and a situation has come up that I thought I would get feed back from members of this forum on. We donate quilts to the local cancer center as well as to people who have lost their homes to fires and other situations as we deem necessary. It has now been suggested that people be required to use specific type batting such as Hobbs 80/20 for the cancer quilts as they are warmer than some of the quilts that have already been donated. This…Continue
Baby quilt ready to go to new family member! After rigorous testing Duncan says this will be a great quilt for a baby to sleep upon! FYI all baby quilts are washed prior to sending them to their new owners!
Have a great weekend every one!
Our sports community is going nuts this weekend...We are hosting Game Day on ESPN because Duke is playing SU for the first time ever and two of the winningest (made up word of the day) coaches in college basketball, who are great friends, are coaching against each other. Our team is undefeated rank 2nd and Duke is like 6-7th. Then of course, the super bowl with all it's parties. You can't buy a bag of chicken wings in the grocery stores!!! The following Monday, our basketball team host Notre…Continue
Have you ever avoided doing task because you really didn't want to tackle it, you knew it wasn't going to be fun, and you weren't sure you wanted to get involved? Whine alert! I was minding my own business, working on a new book, having fun. When whump--into my inbox came the edited manuscript for the next book--please fix. Okay, the thing definitely needed work, I diligently did my rewrites. But, I knew when I sent it in originally that there was a problem--PROBLEM-- with the mystery quilt…Continue
Hello all quilters at Connecting Threads. I'm looking for a fabric called "Shimmering Frost" that is now out of stock and maybe/hopefully one of you would have some in your stash. The colour I am looking for is white background with blue print. Please email me if you happen to have some, All I need is three pieces, 9 x 12" to finish a queen size quilt top. Thanks so much for any help you can give me.
With my job I iron a lot of quilt backings. I'm getting really frustrated with my cord getting tangled up. I'm just wondering if anyone out there has a cordless iron that they love. I've been looking at the Panasonic. I would just like something without a cord that actually gets HOT and stays…Continue
I tried posting a blog yesterday but when I hit the publish post button nothing came up. Oh well I really had nothing exciting to talk about was just blabbering about the weather. I shouldn't have complained at -4 degrees as it was -16 this morning. Lesson learned. Maybe if I reverse it by saying oh…Continue
You know when you have been machine quilting for a long time ...
when you pull the bobbin thread to the top and you are just piecing the binding strips together.
I just found a picture of a sewing machine cover that I made many moons ago. I made it for myself but I didn't get to use it very long when a friend of mine wanted to buy it. So out the door it went. She still uses it over a big jug for a door stop. The same pattern had a vacuum cleaner cover and rabbit "draft dodgers". I made many of those and sold them. Maybe some of you has the pattern and will remember doing these. I think I made these in the late 80's or early 90's. Can't remember…Continue
Found a couple of printed panels at JoAnn Fabrics when I ran there for ribbon…and yes the fabric isn’t really stored by the ribbon…Jaz located them for me…nonetheless…each panel has 2 bibs and 2 burp cloths on them so I bought a boy (monkey) and a girl (paisley Elephants) version…total cuteness! These I think I’ll put away for the next baby born but I also took a few…Continue
What do you do when a friend gives you half their wool stash? Hummmm…
I was over at Teri’s house when she decided to purge her wool stash. Now, this is not just a casual stash; it was a well-cherished, thought-out cache of woolie love. And, this is only half of it!
I cannot believe that it has been so long since I have been on QWU to share with you all. A lot has happened in the last year. I went home to PEI last January and spend Jan. - April with my Mom. In August, she took a stroke and was coming along but ended up with pneumonia and we lost her on August 26. Brent and I left on the Wed. and drove straight home 29 hours on the road but got home while she was still able to know that we were there and was so happy to see Snickers. My sister had…Continue
Just put the final stitches in a thread painting piece that is a late Christmas gift. Since the receiver isn't on here it is okay to share it with you. It is 8"x10". Just needs to be matted now.
Hi everyone! I just wanted to let everyone know I've updated the first paragraph of the Terms of Service. This states more clearly about our advertising rules. Please read this when you have a moment. Thanks!
The official Sundance Film Festival is over for this year.
DH and I still have one volunteer shift to do tonight. After the festival is over, Sundance puts on two free screenings of one or two of the best films. We're working that. Then it's all over for another year. While watching the lobby during a film or guarding the door to the Green Room, I managed to…Continue

Good Morning All,
I have a friend that is looking for an embroidery machine for his wife. He would like to surprise her with one. I asked him what he was willing to pay because they can get pretty expensive. He said $400-$500 was all he could spend. Is there anything out there in that price range? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your help!! Have a great day!
