Last night I was wide eyed and bushy tailed even though I watched t.v., read and played on my Tablet. I finally started to dose off when I heard a flutter sound and opened my eyes to see a black thing moving across the bed. I jumped up and put the light on but nothing was there. But I was certain I seen something. This is at 1:30 a.m. and I am hauling stuff out from under my bed and trying to find what it was. I put 2 and 2 together and decided it was a bat having heard the flutter…Continue
Years ago when the t-shirt quilt craze was the thing to do, I thought I would no way ever want to do one for myself or attempt to work on one. Last week, my cousin called me and asked for my help on a t-shirt quilt she is making for a friend's daughter. I said I would help, but in the back of my mind I was thinking how the heck I was going to quilt this top? After receiving it, I just took the bull by the horns and went for it. Some areas have lines, some have a meander design and some…Continue
Doing last minute packing for the two months we will be gone...I can't just pack...have to clean closets and take stuff to goodwill! But the good news is:
Will keep you posted along the trail...hoping for a very nonevetful trip! Like that's going to happen!
Take care and keep those machines…Continue
I traded in my 10 yr old Janome embroidery machine for the newest model a couple of weeks ago. Several years ago I purchased several clock designs that were advertised to fit a 5x7 hoop, but they really needed a hoop that was at least 5-1/2" wide so I was never able to use them. Now that I have a new machine with larger hoops I couldn't wait to stitch one of them out. My husband even took the clock apart and put it back together for me. Next one is going to be one with apples to use in…Continue
I am not the best picture-taker, so it seems the pictures never do the quilts justice, but here is the latest finish. I dubbed it the China Plate Quilt. It is queen sized.
The center portion (up to the medium blue border) was done in about a day back in 2004. Then it languished in the unfinished pile. I didn't need another lap-sized quilt, but I…Continue
Dolly's bed is finished:
I used a Sterilite Underbed Box 28 Qt., Model #1846 DH found at Walmart for $4.38. To keep the mattress from sinking into the depression when Dolly lies down, I cut a piece of an old political sign the same size as the mattress, which is 16 X 23”, 1” foam (left over from Dolly’s chair), and put it in the mattress cover at the…Continue
Our group continues to get together on a regular basis, although I generally attend only about once a month when we have our monthly “Quilt ‘til you Wilt”. Most of the rest of the ladies get together at least once a week, but I find that packing up my machine, and all the assorted equipment and fabric, and then making the long drive into town, especially during the winter months, discourages me from attending. When Spring arrives, I’m going to try to…Continue
Those darn paper-pieced turtles have almost driven me to banging my head against the wall. After I finally got them all pieced, I started setting the blocks together, but wound up setting the first four turtles with their heads pointing into the center of the circle. Then the remaining two turtle blocks would NOT match up the way they were supposed to. So I had to rip them all apart and start over. What made this even worse is that the blocks were oversized to the setting blocks and had…Continue
Ok so I do get up and go to work every morning, not because I want to but the bills say I have to. After work I come home and sit, not because I want to but because that is all that I am up to these days. Sense September of last year I have been having problems with my foot. …Continue
These are really so much fun to do. Mari is doing her second set in wool; mine are in flat cotton. I like her designs, so I'm just making minor changes as I go.
It's a nice sunny day here but very cold and windy. So I plan to spend it in my sewing room. Yesterday was craft day here in the complex. I took the snowman pillow to work on. Another lady was sewing her braided rug together, and others were working on quilts or hand embroidery. It's a great way to meet new people and have fun while your at it. Not a big crowd showed up but we had fun.
I hope everyone is staying well and enjoying life.
Vintage Stitchers is meeting again after the holidays.
I took my finished Kaleidoscope quilt top to lay out on Janet’s lovely big floor. Most of the fabrics for this quilt are from Connecting Threads Kaleidoscope line, but a few from my stash thrown in. The background fabric is Kona Snow. I…Continue
Yesterday I spent a lot of time on this strippy improv as I want to get it to the sandwiched stage and ready to machine quilt. Today, I've cut my batting and will pin baste it together. They are predicting snow for tonight and tomorrow, so it's a good time to stay inside and get some quilting done. In this picture, my triangles on the edges are just pinned, but I have topstitched them down like the seed shapes. It's funny, I started this strippy thing to try and dwindle my scrap stash…Continue
