My version of a 10 minute block quilt

I finished the 10 minute block quilt, and as I posted, I changed it up a bit.  I set the blocks on point, which was my first time really to do this.  Thank goodness for the cheat sheets on the internet that helped with measurements.  I used what I thought was a curtain that I bought at a second hand store for the plain blocks.  But as I got to cutting, discovered it was actually a shower curtain.  How funny!  Anyway, I was drawn to the gold stars in the shower curtain and just knew…

Digging your own Home

Our family doesn’t have a photo of the original dugout dug in 1868 that was on the “Butter in the Well” farm, so here’s a photo from Kansas Memory to give you a visual view to contemplate while reading a passage from my book …

Leap Into Your Day With My Chocoholic Dream Cake!

What better way to celebrate Leap Day than to jump right into a fun and easy baking project?

I have been making this for years. I used to call it "Day Before Payday Cake" bacause it was a treat I could still make when I had run out of eggs!

Chocoholic's Dream Cake

Make in an 8x8 pan

All can be mixed in an 8x8 pan with a fork-just stir and stir till it becomes nice and smooth...

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Mix together in middle of the pan:

60 degree EPP

Good grief! On Sunday I found a site that had a free printable 60 degree EPP paper. I didn't bookmark it because I thought I would remember and could print it when I put in my new ink cartridge...but I can't find it again.  It was from quilting site, probably as a link from Pinterest.  Does anyone know where I might find that or where I can get some (easier to do) precut 60 degree diamonds?  (which I know are really…

HELP!!!! English Paper Piecing

Ok so I went to the quilt show this past weekend in Hampton, Va and was inspired to start EPP.  There was this beautiful quilt with 12,256 hexagons.  I bought some hexis and some honeycomb pieces.  I have started this really cute piece I will probably make a pot holder out of.  All is going really good though until I cut 1" squares in half to finish the block.  I can not figure out how to fold the fabric around the tiny half square triangles to get it right at…

The Power Shopper Blues

The Power Shopper Blues...

Quickly, quickly I must fly away home!

the credit card bill arrived

and Mancave's at home!

What will he do? What will he say?

"Fabric again? Or was it the mall all in one day?

Well, which is it?" He asks as his face turns bright red -

"Darling, I thought we had talked about this..." he said.

"Well? Well?" I stammered and replied,

(Somehow the joy…

A Little Early

Tonight was the night of my monthly guild meeting.  We take turns bringing the meal each month, usually about three ladies each month.  I spent all day making lasagna for 30 people.  I was a little early.  My month was April.....sigh.

Progress

I haven't posted here for awhile, mostly because I haven't been sewing much.  Partially because I've been super busy (playing and working and travel), but mostly because my sewing room was such a mess.  Now, I know you're thinking your room is a mess too, but this was bad.  Really bad.  Last Fall I went on two different quilting retreats, had a blast.  But when I returned, I just dumped everything into "the room".  Now this room was already bad, because it's much much smaller than my…

Quilt Block Number Six of 200 Quilts from "Around the Block with Judy Hopkins"

I am in the process of making all 200 blocks into 200 quilts from the book, "Around the Block with Judy Hopkins".  I just completed block number six, paper pinwheels.  I am really enjoying creating these quilts and watching the designs that each block turns into when you put four blocks together.  I am also blogging about the experience and have pictures of each quilt.  In some cases I am showing different variations.

This is such a great book.  Judy not only gives you 200…

High Fiber—Hitting the Shops

As I promised last week, here's a review of the Needlepoint Joint in Ogden, Utah.

Joanie, Ellen and I stopped there after the Acorn Antique Fair. We always stop there when we can. Joanie was looking for yarn for a poncho with a cowl attached. The people who work there are very helpful. When you come in the door, you see a nice selection of bags and books.…

flannel

I have never used flannel. Am I correct in that patterns with larger pieces are more suitable due to the bulk?

I have a hankering to make a flannel blankie for my cousin's cottage.

exploration into eye painting

Had an idea… at the moment it seemed OK…well it didn’t work…use floral foam to hold the eyes shank end up so I can paint them…well the foam was way crumbly and I didn’t really want green texture added to the eyes so……waste of foam…sigh……

"If I Ever Get Out Of Here..."

Have you ever  watched a movie where the characters are confined in a broken down elevator shaft or trapped somewhere and they start making declarations about things they'll do if they ever get out of there? Well, that's about where I am. I went in for a minor surgery about 10 days ago and three days later developed a complication that has had me confined pretty much at home ever since--ok, except for the three visits to the ER!

It's not like I am sitting around twiddling my…

Me an Evangelist?

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations...     Matthew 28:19

I had the most wonderful and awesome worship experience on Amtrak between San Antonio and Chicago on my way home from Arizona this past weekend. There were a group of Korean missionaries traveling the United States blessing the cities and the Christians of this country. One of the women of the group had been in Israel and felt called to perform this mission. So here they were…
