round 2 of trying to get vacation time....

I am on vacation again this week.  I was suppose to have last week off but when someone was sick or hurt I was called in. I told the boss if you want me to work then I work the whole week and then take time off later.  One would think that being on vacation I would be sleeping in and enjoying my time off. Not so.  I've gotten up at at least 5am every morning.  The house is quiet for now. The other half is off to work and forgot to take his coveralls with him, so, me being up and he knew…

Home and Update

Good Morning:

Yes I’m home from the hospital and on reduced pain meds enough to trust what may come out of my brain and know that it’s okay to post now.  I had my surgery on Feb 14th and came home on the 15th.  I have two new friends with me, one is Wendy the Walker and the other is Patty the port-a-potty.  We are getting well acquainted with each other and getting quite up close and personal.

The surgery was a little longer than expected and I did end up…

High Fiber—Back on My Rocker and Weaving Looming Large!

We picked up my new loom on Wednesday and set it up in the living room until spring.

Joanie's son, Mike, helped take it partially apart, so he came along to help put it back together.…

Colored thread for hand quilting vs. linen colored....

What is the usual thinking on using colored thread for hand quilting a project. I have started a quilt that was pieced in the 40's-50's...traditionally, I always use an antique white or white thread. Do any of you use colored? How do they judge using different colors at shows or is that a no-no? None of mine are show quilts, I just try to keep with the time the quilt was pieced. Just wondering! Have a great day!

Can't sleep, might as well blog!

This is a week off for me (happy dance!) and I hope to spend much of it in my sewing room. I have a CT Easter table runner that I am trying to get together, but since Easter is in March this year (who's idea was that???) it may not make it's debut this year. I've become a personal seamstress for Piper, and I love that. She expects great things from me! Piper also wears clothes that I made many years ago for her mom and her aunt. Much of last year was spent getting my mom into a rehab home, and… Continue

pic of my dgs Billy wearing his new hat

Although this is crocheting instead of quilting, I thought some of you might enjoy seeing a pic of my dgs Billy wearing his new hat.  He saw a pic of this on the internet and asked me to make him one.  The pattern was very poorly written so there were times I wanted to just throw up my hands in frustration, but now after seeing him with it on I'm happy I stuck with it.  (Shannon, this is the grandson who is going to Canada in June as a Student Ambassador). …

Identity Theft

I placed an order with CT at the beginning of the week and the next day I got a call saying my Visa had been used for 2 things. Both not by me. Then my friend told me about the recent postings from Linda and Irene. What is happening?

How many trips for the same fabric

I just got home from local quilt shop--purchased the same fabric--for the same project--the third time. On purpose. Really? What's wrong with me? The most amazing part of the story is not that I needed more, and more, but that I bought it here and they still have some left. I asked my name be put on the bolt--you know--just in case I still don't have enough. Sheesh!

One Year Later

It's hard to believe it has been a whole year since I started my quilt project.  I have been quilting one quilt from each block in my favorite quilt book, "Around the Block with Judy Hopkins".

I started this project so quilters would have a place to go to see what the blocks would look like when sewn together.  On many of the quilt blocks you see a different design than just the single block.  I have had a hard time visualizing what the quilt would look like just from seeing the…

Fabric requirements

the quilt finishes at 51" x 68"

that is a total of 34689 square inches on the finished front of quilt

The fabric requirements have us buying 8280 square inches of fabric - more than twice what will show.

Is this correct?

Don't you just love Raggedy Ann and Andy...what was your favorite doll?

Every era has their special dolls...the 60's had Barbie and still do...Betsy Wetsy and Chatty Cathy and Cabbage Patch dolls. There is nothing in my book like the Raggedy Anns and all her adventure stories. I had a dear friend who made them when she was in her 80s. Hand stitched every thread of hair, etc. I bought many as baby gifts and a set for my self 30 yrs. ago. Last year I purchased Raggedy Ann blocks that were made in the 30's. Still have enough left for a quilt. Had three blocks that…

My credit card # was stolen

Today about the time I was viewing Linda Koller's blog about her Identity theft, my card was being used by Mahlstead Photographer.  I got a call asking if I had used my card at noon time today.  I said no, and then they said it had been used by the above name.  They put 99 cents on it and the man from the card Co. said they do this to see if the card is active and then they go shopping.  They automaticly canceled my card ( thank goodness) and told me to call the bank and order a new…
