Took some doing, but got it done!

There were a few moments of 'unsewing', but I got the Easter dress for Bailey finished today. Whew!  I love how it looks!  I'll be sending it to her after she and her mom and dad get resettled. They are moving to Arizona mid March for Jenna's health. Now to make a matching little purse to go…

Baby update update on the update, see added blog in the comments!

The news about baby Aiden.  DD was suppose to get a call from the hospital at 4am this morning to tell her when to come into the hospital.  Call never came.  DD called hospital and her Doctor, it was discovered that she was never scheduled to be in the hopsital today.  (someboy screwed up) Doctor called the hospital and explained that she would be coming in today.  Doctor then told DD that it would be around 2 or 3 this afternoon.   No one called her to come in.  About an hour ago DD sends…

machine quilting and embroidery question

Has anyone used an embroidery machine to quilt with? I'm hoping to conquer my fear/ and develop a skill of creating something using my embroidery machine.

You thoughts and suggestions are welcomed.

Mitering inside corners

I'm finding it challenging to miter the inside corners on the scalloped edges of the DWR.  Here is a video I watched to see how it was handled, but I'm not finding it as easy to do as what is shown.  The binding was sewn down by machine on the top side in the same way the video suggests, and I'm having no problems mitering the front side, although I do find the process tedious.  However, when I flip it over to miter…

I'm blaming PAM

I didn't start laying out and cutting out the Easter dress for Bailey until AFTER I read Pam's post on things going wrong.  I should have seen that as an omen.  Got the skirt cut out and next was part of the bodice. Had the two pieces of Fabric A all lined up perfectly so the print would match and make the first 6" cut... AUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Forgot to turn one of the piece around so there would be a left and a right. Of course by the time I discovered it I had gone too far. I was using…

Looking for my MOJO

Since my recent forced re-retirement I have struggled to find purpose and routine in my days. This feeling of always needing to be doing something to contribute to family finances has been so ingrained that it is hard to get used to this notion of not having to be so concerned about it.

Relaxing is not in my nature.

Last year I worked hard to lose 54lbs. and become more physically active. but since Christimas I seem to have lost my MOJO and finding it hard to get back on…

A vintage hexie quilt

Another donation came in last week.... actually several,  but check out this darling little afghan.  And the vintage hexie top is featured in this post.

I love the generous nature of quilters! We are helping so many people.

Border "Panic" Options

I will first place a purple border no matter what border option I choose.

Border options are as follows:

Bottom: this was my original option. I think it compliments the focal block design! (I like it the best!…

Good to be back...

It's hard to believe I haven't been on Quilt With Us for almost 5 months. So much has happened; my beloved mother passed away after Christmas and I miss her terribly. Although she had a long good life and was healthy for most of her 91 years...I miss her.

Also my husband has decided to retire from his job in December of this year. We will be moving back home to Colorado, which we are really happy about.  We will be close to…

More about my biscuit quilts

I just posted a few more pictures which show more detail of a couple of the biscuit quilts I made and I also included a few other projects that I have worked on in the last few years. Thanks to all for your support and I am working on a tutorial for the biscuit quilting which should be done by the end of March for anyone who would like it.  Happy Quilting to all!

Buried in continuous bias binding.

I usually bind my quilts with straight of grain (SOG) binding.  (And yes, I can hear all the gasps from those who are bias binding purists.)  I have no real reason for being a SOG binding snob, except that I'm basically lazy.  It is just easier for me to cut strips off the end of my fabric than to a) cut on the bias, or b) do the math for the continuous bias binding.

However, the scalloped edges on my daughter's DWR quilt (yes, it is FINALLY…

My bags were packed and ready to go...BUT...

We were packed and ready to head to Florida for 5 weeks of rest and sun...Hubby called from work and said his knee totally collapsed. We are in the process of scheduling for a total knee. Knew it was coming, but thought he could wait until summer. We are having lunch and he spits a chunk of tooth out! He has to have a crown on Friday...that's of course if he isn't in the operating room! I know something else is going to happen...things happen in threes....yes, that's true because my granny…

Anyone want to go sledding?

We have the snow & the hill if anyone else has the sled!  My power has gone off for a few seconds this morning and my internet acted like it was going to go off, but it didn't go completely.  This is a very heavy wet snow.  Fortunately (knock on wood) we have not lost any branches off our trees, but our neighbor's tree has several broken branches, some of which have fallen in to our yard.  We have a power line in the backyard that is dragging very low to the ground as well.  This storm…

Silent auction item headed for Colorado

This table topper is the main silent auction item, along with some books of course, and I had some fabrics left so I made the mug rugs, and book covers. The pattern for the Columbine runner was in the March/April issue of McCall's Quilting. Since the auction will be in Colorado and people are coming from all over, I was struck by the Columbines--the state flower.…

Got two more done this month!

Good morning all;

My it's been an awful winter with predominantly cold temps and dampness in the air. Good for quilters who have lots of UFOs to finish. That where I've been most of the winter. My hyacinths, tulips and daffys are showing their greenery and poking through as most of the snow is now gone. (yeah) The groundhog was right, spring is around the corner.

So here are my finished quilts, both wall hangings:

The one posted below is a mystery quilt that I did with…

Borders "panic" update! Hope this makes sense!

So I worked over the weekend on some border blocks...However, I'm not feeling the "vibe" with what I came up with!

Multiple problems:

I don't think I have enough fabric left to make "mathcing blocks" around the…

pic of my dgs Mike wearing his new hat

My dgs Mike saw a pattern for this hat on Ravelry.com and asked me to make it for him.  (He is the older brother to the dgs I crocheted the knight's helmet for.)  This was the 1st time I have followed a knitting chart in many yrs, but it turned out great.  It is kind of big on him, but since he is only 13 I'm sure he has some growing to do yet.

Here is…

High Fiber—Sleying the Mighty Reed And Other Adventures

Wednesday, Deanna, my weaving teacher, came to my house to help me set up my loom and give me a lesson.

Here she is showing me how she picks up four separate threads in order as they come out of the heddles and keeps them straight as she threads them through the dents in the reed, (sleying the reed). The reed is to the left in the photo. It holds all of the…
