The Yearly Physical

About a week ago, as I was busily sewing along trying to meet two deadlines, my sewing machine control panel began to display a little wrench and screwdriver icon.  Made a quick check in the manual and a phone call to the dealer to see how immediate a concern this icon was.  My repair technician told me to go ahead and complete the two projects, but then to pack up the machine and get it over to see him, ASAP!

Well, as I was working on quilting the borders of my second deadline…

Electric Quilt Question

I am trying to design a baby quilt for my great nephew, who is due in one month.  I want to use 6" and 12" blocks, but can't figure out how to add both sizes using electric quilt.  If I set the quilt to 6" finished blocks it won't let me add a 12" that covers where 4 - 6" blocks would be in the quilt.  If this makes any sense, and you can help, I would appreciate it.  Obviously, I have put off making this quilt as long as I can!

Sometimes I impress even myself!

The BF came home the other day and snapped my back, back into place and after work today this is what I got done on the new quilt.  Yes I am very impressed.  I love the colors and I wish you could see the block better but you get the idea.  Just incase the DD is checking in on me. No you don't get this quilt!!! … Continue

Thank you

Thank you for the comments on the quilt top.  It is a little bigger than a lap quilt.  It is done with Kansas Troubles material in gold, green and reds.   I get come ons for quilt clubs and magazines and the free patterns are always a teaser.  I get about 3-4 per year.  I have made a couple of quilts from the free patterns.  I downloaded  the Skaithos quilt pattern and I think I might try that, even the quilting part.

Today I started the no eating between meals getting ready…

Spring Snow Storm

Woke up to a spring snow storm today, I kind of like it gives me a chance to sew and cook.

NYC Red&White Quilt Show

Yesterday I went to the Red & White quilt show in NYC.  It was incredible. Held at the Park Avenue Armory...as you walked through those massive wood Doors which opened up to an enormous expanse of a room and beheld the hundreds of quilts hanging from all different heights you could not help but be awed.  The armory itself is impressive, so massive and old...beautiful wood on the staircases and walls...it was a lovely place in which to display all those amazing quilts.  I can not explain…

Kari Update

The latest we have heard is they plan to start dialysis today if her kidneys did not start functioning overnight. Josh's parents work with missionaries in the European area and apparently are coming in so prayers for their travel would be awesome.   They are all very appreciative of the prayers and support from everyone.

Quartzsite, AZ

Good morning to all and a beatuful day.  We've now been to Tucson, Tombstone, Phoenix and now Quartzsite. Oh what a wonderful time we are having exploring so many different places and the weather has been great. We spent one day in Tombstone, looking over the old town. In Tucson, we were in Old Town , which is really neat and just explored. We also found the quilt shops, where I buy at least a fat quarter. I've met so many nice people. We spent 8 days in Phoenix, going… Continue

Me time

This is what I pieced together yesterday and today for me time.  If sure felt good to sit down and piece a quilt.  Now just to get it quilted.  This was a free pattern I got in the mail.  Really easy to piece.  I did make a mistake on a couple of blocks and had to rip.  But ripping is ok.

Hope all is have a great…

Life and its Weirdness

I've missed everyone -- and hope that I can start participating in here again on a much more regular basis!  It's been a month since I've posted in here...

Partly, it's been a mix of too much professional responsibility.  I've been working very hard to get some of my "reluctant learners" back on track, which has meant writing totally new lessons and readjusting the course schedule.  I've also been taking a professional development course, which also takes up a lot of…

DD graduation

We have had a couple days off in Jackson, MS so that we could go to DD's college graduation today.  I posted pictures.  Also posted pic's of a quilt I made for her a few years ago. I am so proud of her...she graduated Magna Cum Laude.  She has an Associates degree in Business Administration and medical assistant.

We will get a load to go home Monday and will get to be home a couple days.

Major Prayer Request

I haven't been posting much but have a request that can use all the prayer warriors available.  Our pastor's daughter Kari fell Thursday night resulting in an emergency C-section and losing their baby daughter two weeks prior to delivery. She had major issues getting her blood to clot and when that seemed to be controlled she has developed kidney failure which has worsened this morning.  She and her husband live in LA with their 2 y/o daughter; her parents finally got a flight out there last… Continue

Okay, ladies, I need your help...

I have my blocks made.  I am setting them on point.  I am working on adding the sashing and sashing squares and am trying to figure out what size to cut.

I pulled out my "Quilter's Complete Guide" by Fons and Porter for their instructions…

Getting Closer...Isn't She a Beaut!

The stove and refrigerator were delivered and installed today.  Everything is coming together and should be one more week before the house is finished.  The electrician is the one holding things up but they have a very big job.  The tile man will finish today and the plumber has a little more to do.  I think they broke one of my shower controls so they have to get another…

A Day's Work

Hello all,

I'm posting a picture of my 'day's work' from yesterday.  This week is spring break for us, so I've had a vacation from school.  My goal was to get my son and future daughter-in-law's wedding quilt top completed this week.  The pattern is Delectable Mountains and I wanted to make a different center square…

"Quilter's Block"

It all started with my "quilter's block" yesterday afternoon. I have been working on my "With Love From Roseville" quilt for my Fall retreat. I couldn't seem to find my stride. I knew I needed an eye-catcher for the center block, but no matter what I tried, nothing would come together. If it wasn't the colors, it was the design. When I thought I got the design right, the angles were wrong on the triangles. It was always something that drove me crazy...then...I decided to give up on it and just… Continue

Log Cabin Star

A few years ago my husband and I stopped in a quilt store in Berea, Kentucky.  Hanging on the wall was a quilt that looked like a Lone Star at first glance but was actually made with diamond shaped log cabin blocks. I loved it but they didn't have a pattern for it, it was a consignment quilt.   I got home and looked for a pattern and didn't find one.  Well, a month or so ago I was telling this story at my quilting group and one of the others said that you just started with a 60 degree…
