Home again

We got home April 19th and it was still cold and rainy. Our daugther kept telling us not to come home, but to stay where we were nice and warm. We did have such a great time and loved all the warm, hot weather that we had. We've got caught up on all the things that we needed to and now are ready to play again. No more long trips until July, just shorter ones. We didn't do any crabbing in OR or WA, because we didn't want to freeze sitting there waiting for the crabs to eat the turkey legs.…

Li'l Twister

Here's my version of the Li'l Twister tool pinwheel project for my girl.  She graduates from college this weekend and is in the process of moving into an apartment.  This is a little housewarming gift for her.

It ended up approximately 15" x 21".  I put Insul-bright along with cotton batt in this one so she could set a casserole dish on it if she wanted.  The black tonal pinwheel fabric might have been a poor choice, but I hoped the solid black would be enough different so it…

I'm so excited!

Awhile back, I posted a message about how I was DESPERATE for a particular quilt pattern.  Apparently no one had it although several though it was really cute.

Last Monday, I decided to 'google' it again and I FOUND IT!!   I immediately sent off payment for it and it arrived today.  Here it is.  I'm soooo excited!!!!!

I can't wait to get started... but it will have to wait until the end of this month :(.  Oh well, I've waited 5 yrs for it and now I have it - I can wait a couple…

Sorry, I don't have a picture, but if you have access to the latest edition of Quilter's Home, there is an article near the front about using zippers as trim.  Also shows a quilt with zippers (non-functioning I assume) between the blocks.  I was thinking about attaching the zipper behind the binding with only the teeth showing.  Had to hunt around to find a place that sold zipper by the yard, but finally found it in an upholstery shop.

How do I add words to a quilt?

Hey Y'all,

Got a question. How do I add words to a quilt? I've already made the quilt, but I want to add some words to it.  I've thought about embroidery but I don't have an embroidery machine. I've thought about cutting out little rectangles and writing the words on it with a pigment pen and then applique it to the quilt. Painting, stamping, permanent marker.....help! Which one of these methods do you think will work best, if…

I haven't been on here for a good long while.  Just too busy piecing and enjoying finally using my new machine.  Today I just wanted to say how sad it is to hear of the devastation in the southern US.  How horrible it is to see that much damage and so many lost lives.    We travelled through there a few years ago and I enjoyed our visit there so much and found the people so friendly.   From here in BC, Canada I wish all our friends down there better days ahead.

Just wondering if anyone has used the new fad of zipper trim to edge a quilt and how it came out.  I'm thinking of trying it this summer and would appreciate feedback.  Thanks

Looking for recommendations - Embroidery machine

At some time in the near future I really would like to purchase an embroidery machine.  I currently just have a Janome straight sewing machine.  I see lots of ads for Baby Lock, but have not seen one in person.  Also, I know there are many different brands with a wide range of prices.  Does anyone have recommendations???

While taking breaks from YIKES HOUSEWORK....

I just finished this up today.. and it will definitely be the last project for a couple of weeks.

I think it looks even better in person :).  This is another one for me.

E.Q quilt again

So. yesterday I decided on my quilt for the boy (we laughingly call him the boy but he's actually 30 ) and I ordered my fabric. Then thinking this morning...something I shouldn't do...the boy really likes argyle. Off to EQ again and another 2 block pattern. I really like this one too but I would have to buy red fabric for it. Oh No. is this affliction only common in quilters? Now I don't know which one to make...maybe you all might have an opinion... I really need help..or a Doctor. Did I… Continue

EQ Quilt

Everytime I make a quilt my son say's "where's mine?" So this morning I made this quilt in EQ and ordered all the fabric from CT. I love CT, the total cost (21 yards, yes I got a little extra for  artists possible modification's, you know how it is) including batting thread and backing was $140.00. That's a steal up here in the great white north lol.  Now I hope it turns out and the boy likes it! So once again I have 5 - 14 days to finish the four quilts already started before my fabric… Continue

On Monday afternoon, I was offered my own worldwide Internet Radio show! It seems our little town of Roseville and our crazy guild has caught the attention of quite a many people around cyberspace.

Each morning, while I sit with my… Continue

Hey guys, all have been so great and incouraging.  I looked in at a couple of your home pages and you guys are nurses too.  What is it that draws stressed out overworked underappreciated falling apart nurses to a hobbie that can be frustrating, exasprating, embarassing, overpowering, heartfelt, and OH that is just cool?  To the nurses that took the time to give me a moment of their time.  Thank you.  I am still trying to learn this site so I am stumbling through this right now too.…

Thank You for Prayers

Worst of storms are past where my DD is---one last band of thunderstorms is almost through now.  They are fine---heard from her a few minutes ago.  She says everyone is "chill" now and they are playing games.  Thank you, God!  And thank you all for your prayers!  Please continue to pray for all those hit by the storms---they are still moving through north Georgia and into North Carolina, and I know that there has been terrible damage and many deaths as this has moved across the country.  God… Continue

I know this isn't about quilting, but I would really appreciate prayers from my quilting friends here---my DD just texted from her college.  They are gettting hit really hard by the storms and are in a tornado warning.  The storm is breaking over them right now.  She isn't normally afraid of anything like this, so it must be really bad.  They already had been hit hard this morning and the campus was cut off for a while and still has no power.  She is in Rome, Georgia.  The kids are really…
