About a year ago I responded to a call for quilt patterns in recognition of Cinco De Mayo. This is the throw I designed:
The pattern can be found in the April 2016 issue of The Quilt Pattern Magazine http://www.quiltpatternmagazine.com/
I made this quilt using fabrics…Continue
I like to interview my fabric before selecting which ones to use. I do a rough layout and switch different swatches or scraps then take a photo in the light where the finished project may be. This is a Christmas bed runner I'm in the process of deciding. I'm not happy with the first ball...the accent fabrics do not show up very well...so will be switching that out. Our…Continue
No, not talking about Prince, although he's been the topic of discussion these days. Strange how people scurry out of the woodwork to capitalize when tragedy strikes...family or otherwise.
Anyway, I have once again (somehow) subjected myself to help out (a cousin-in-law this time) with making her daughter a quilt. I say help, but yes, I am making the entire thing start to finish. The mom wants to surprise her for her graduation this year from Clemson U. with this "tail gating…Continue
This morning I received an e-mail from Quilts for Kids saying they just mailed out the last boy quilt and are in need of more with boy themes. If this is something you would like to help with or learn more about, here is the web site:
I knew that title would grab your attention. hee hee. But with some of the things I put up with that title might not be too far off.
Bud is back to the nursing home. He went into the hospital with double pneumonia. After her recovered they took him back to Marshall's in Machias for long term care. This is his 3rd trip over there. He is still up to his old phone calling and leaving numerous messages. I went to a public supper Friday night and then stopped in to visit a neighbor…Continue
We had a spin-in this past week in The Frog Prince and his Knitting Community Orphans.
That was the first bobbin. I’m close to finishing the second one. I’ll try to remember to post a photo of the two together, plied when…Continue
I see that my last posting was in February so obviously I haven’t been contributing as regularly as I had planned at the beginning of the year. However, here’s a bit more ‘catching up’.
This past Saturday our quilting group (now named The Charm Pack) got together for our monthly Quilt ‘til you Wilt at our meeting room at the local university satellite campus. The name came as a result of us being asked to purchase insurance to protect the university from liability should one of us…Continue
Finally got that paper-pieced turtle quilt set off to my sister in law. She loved it, thought it was so cute. I really wish I could post a photo, I've tried everything I can think of. My Vivitar digital camera software just isn't going to cooperate. Anyway, if any of you have gone to Java House quilts and seen the original pattern, you'll have a pretty good idea what it looks like. Only real difference is the fact that I used a whole strip of a cute cartoon turtle print for the outer…Continue
The August Itty Bitty was a challenge for me, not in the way you would think. It was the most, uh, how shall I put this, plain of all the …Continue
My granddaughter is turning 5 in a few weeks, and has always had a thing for mermaids. I have a feeling she will love snuggling down into this mermaid bag with one of her dolls.
I'm hoping to get some help from machine quilters on here. I started machine quilting using Presencia thread using a size 90 top stitch needle. That is the same needle that Superior Threads recommends you use so I thought it would be okay. Anyway, the thread is continuing to break and there are times when it looks like it wasn't twisted properly. Do you all think it is the thread itself or am I using the wrong size needle? This happens more when I'm trying a more decorative stitch, but…Continue
Now that I have your attention….not done with doll clothes. Here is Dolly wearing the jeans that are part of her western attire:
The hat and boots came from…Continue
My BFF has a quilt in the AQS show in Paducah. We have always said if either of us has a quilt there, we both go. There was a bit of panic when the shipping tracker lost track of it but it did arrive. (Sound of angels singing). We are headed out before dawn tomorrow.
If you have made some of the 365 days blocks and would like to post them Amanda has made a link at Grandmother's Choice. This group does follow a longs, Like Civil War from Saturday Morning post. it is how the group got started. i will try to post some of my 365 days. I do like some and others take too long for me.
Its been a very long time since I added a post. I have come and checked out what everyone is doing. I just had many new things going on these last few years! Some good, and some a bit difficult. Yet always everything moves forward. Sometimes it seems so slow, yet I do have to say its been all to fast for me.
Such as Sheba just had her third Birthday in Feb. 18th 2016. Evy will have her 3rd Birthday, April 29th 2016.
The worst kind, not even about quilting!
I know some members on QWU also enjoy doing hand embroidery and cross stitching. Recently I purchased a cross stitch pattern that only lists Valdani color numbers. The pattern is Quakers & Quilts, a design by Karen Kluba. After a couple days now of searching online for a conversion chart for Valdani to DMC, I'm broke busted and disgusted. So, when you run into a pattern chart that only calls for Valdani, do you take out an equity loan…Continue
Dorothy Alexander and Gabrielle Tonner cordially invite you to attend the birthday party for their friend Daphne Jr.’s Uncle Zachary, who turns four on April 8, 2016.
Here are Dolly and Gabi, seeing how they look in their new aprons. I raided my quilting stash to find fabric to coordinate with their…Continue
I recently started a new project, or rather picked up one that had been hanging fire for some time. My brother used to like to buy me fabric; trouble is, he liked the large-scale scenic prints. One day he came home with a large scale scenic of pheasants around old farmyards. I got a notion, and used the "Hunter's Star" block in red and white, and blue and white, fussy cutting the pheasants fabric for setting blocks. Somehow I managed to cut twice as many pheasants as I needed, and the…Continue
